Almighty: Vitalum Vitalis

AN: I have a ton of fics I'm trying to dish out before I get swamped with holiday mess. This is a witch trilogy staring GIRLee! I thought of just making the boys magical but girls and magic is more fun. I hope you enjoy.

Gwiboon hated being here. She hated everything about this place. Eunsook set a glass of strawberry lemonade before her with a smile. “I just made a batch.”

Well she hated almost everything.

“She’s been here for months and you’re still sucking up to her?” Taeyeon griped.

Eunsook set a glass down for herself, “Be quiet Taeyeon.”

“Or what you’ll make me?” She glared.

Eunsook looked up at her with the same smile, “Yes and trust me you won’t like it. Sit.”

Taeyeon did so immediately sulking. “Stop that.”

“Then you stop with that attitude.”

Gwiboon could understand why Taeyeon was so angry being trapped here. She had been a prodigy student in her dance school before she discovered her powers and was sent here. All her grand dreams had been taken from her all because she lacked control over her gifts. Taeyeon was as pretty as any actress, if she weren’t stuck here she’d be a top star by now. Unlike Gwiboon she’d been here for years.

“Little princess in trouble again?” Jonghee laughed entering the room, “Ah lemonade unnie you’re the best. Hello to you too, Boonie.”

Gwiboon ignored her instead shuffling her cards, the stupid cards that had started all of this. She flipped one over on a whim and the flashes came. “Someone’s coming, soon very soon.”

“Really, should I get another glass of lemonade?”

“They will be here at dinner,” Gwiboon answered trying to make the flashes go away.

“I’ll make sure the chef knows then.” Eunsook sipped at her lemonade, “Thank you Gwiboon-ah.”

Taeyeon scoffed, “This one talent of yours is really old hat.”

“Don’t be jealous that she has foresight and you don’t. Pyrokinesis is a cute talent.” Jonghee commented, “It fits your personality and it’s one of the seven wonders.”

“I have more than one talent,” Taeyeon countered, “I don’t know why I haven’t been named next for Almighty candidate yet.”

“When you can best me, I’ll tell Mina-sunbae that you should be the almighty candidate but for now my candidate will remain as it is.”

“You haven’t even told us who that is. All we can guess is that it isn’t Taeyeon,” Jonghee replied, “That leaves me, Gwiboon, and maybe yourself? Did you make yourself the candidate? You couldn’t have made Gwiboon the candidate not when me and Taeyeon have been here way longer than her.”

“It doesn’t matter how long someone has been here.”

“Well I think being here for four years is pretty different from being here for six months,” Taeyeon commented.

“Taeyeon’s right, we’ve been here much longer. There’s no way Gwiboon should even be considered a candidate. She only has one talent.”

Gwiboon stood, “I agree and I don’t want to be a part of this stupid almighty thing anyway. I’d rather they picked someone so I can go back to living a normal life. I’m going to my room thanks for the lemonade.”

She walked away ignoring Jonghee’s drama queen comment and Taeyeon’s amusement at it.
“Your cards?”

Gwiboon looked down to her hand and they were there, “Why?” She held up her hand before leaving the room, “I have them.”

Taeyeon and Jonghee went quiet and she returned to her room.

“When did she learn to do that?” Jonghee asked looking at the table. “She obviously left them here.”

“She has a lot of talents,” Eunsook grinned, “she just doesn’t know she has them yet. She’s progressing quickly because she’s such a natural witch but she’s not using her full potential. She has telekinesis and divination too.”

“All that and she wants a normal life,” Taeyeon scoffed, “How stupid. If she wanted that she wouldn’t have raved about the Sewol accident days before it happened.”

“She was trying to do the right thing,” Jonghee rebutted, “Better than the way any of us got here.  Burning down a school, ruining my neighbor’s marriage, killing a guy,” She turned to Eunsook, “not that you did that on purpose. Gwiboon got here trying to save hundreds of people’s lives. We got here by destroying them.”

Eunsook patted Taeyeon’s shoulder, “That’s how most people get here, but Gwiboon’s talent destroyed her own life. They put her in an asylum after the accident. Her family had to move. They were going to charge her before the council came to collect her. All the things we did, they were cited as accidents, they weren’t seen as our fault. Before the council stepped in they were going to name Gwiboon as a conspirator to the incident. Even now when she knows things she can’t always say. It’s hellish for her and she can’t control it as easily as we can control our gifts but she’s getting better.”

Jonghee frowned, “Who do you think is coming for dinner? A new witch?”

Eunsook shrugged, “That’s my guess too but only Gwiboon knows for sure.”

Taeyeon decided to check on Gwiboon before dinner. She was in her room drawing and listening to music. Her cards shuffled in the air but she seemed oblivious to it. She knocked on the open door to get her attention. As soon as she looked up the cards fell from the sky.

“What the hell Taeyeon?”

“It wasn’t me,” She remarked. “You do stuff and don’t even know you’re doing it.”

“What?”

“You have another talent. You can move objects telekinesis; you can use transmutation too.” Taeyeon explained. “You don’t seem aware of it so you’ve probably been doing them for a long time without knowing.”

“Telekinesis like you and Eunsook-unni?”

She nodded taking a seat, “I can’t believe they don’t make you share a room.”

“Because I have nightmares from visions and they don’t want me keeping someone else up.” Gwiboon huffed, “Trust me it’s not because I’m being spoiled. Mina-sunbaenim explained it all in detail. Even if I wake up screaming no one outside this room will hear it. The spell is to comfort everyone else in the house not me.”

“You wake up screaming?”

“The future is horrible,” She said collecting her cards, “and the past is worse. When I first came here I had dreams about the history of this house. It’s pretty bad.”

“Yeah I know, I lived here for some of it.” Taeyeon sighed, “About the visitor, any idea who it is?”

“Mina-sunbaenim and two other people, one is tall with short hair. I couldn’t see her face clearly. I assumed a new witch. The other is called Sunny.”

“Sunny? Two members of council are coming.” Taeyeon stood grabbing Gwiboon’s, “Come on we’ve got to tell Eunsook-unni. Why didn’t you tell us earlier?”

“I didn’t know earlier. It’s not like I control it.” She said following after her.

Eunsook’s ever present smile greeted them, “Ah I was expecting you. Your cards are there.”

“Huh?” Gwiboon blinked looking at the table, slowly approaching, “But how did they?”

“Nevermind that Gwiboon saw Sunny and Mina-sunbaenim coming to the house with a new witch.”

“Two members?” Eunsook’s smile fell. “Then something’s happened. Gwiboon did you see anything else.”

She shook her head, “No, all I saw was them coming to the dinner table.” She flipped over a card, “Actually they’re here now.”

Just then the main door could be heard opening. “Girls! Girls, come down I’d like to speak with you.”

They moved to the parlor where Jonghee was waiting along with Mina, Sunny and another girl.

“I asked the chef if he could set another two plates and what do you know he said that Gwiboon had already told him.” Mina began, “It’s so rare having a teller in the house, we can’t keep any surprises from you.”

Gwiboon didn’t respond only fiddled with the cards in her hand. Mina spoke to the group again, “I’d like to introduce to you Choi Minjung she will be joining you as our newest sister. Please treat her well.”

She bowed, “Nice to meet you.”

It was on everyone’s mind but no one asked, not with Mina and Sunny around. They'd have to wait.

“Now Eunsook is the eldest here and she is in charge. If you have any problems at all she can help you.” Mina smiled, “How about a tour of the manor. You can use the room across from Gwiboon’s. The girls and I can tell you everything about your new home.”

Eunsook nodded, “Of course unni.”

She turned her attention to Gwiboon. “Gwiboon-ah you stay behind Sunny-ssi would like to speak with you.”

When they were alone Gwiboon felt more anxious, Sunny only smiled, “I have something to help foster your talents.”

Gwiboon waited as she pulled a box from her luggage and carefully opened it.

“A crystal ball?” Gwiboon blinked, “Like the ones on TV.”

“Yes, but this is no toy,” She explained, “This has been in our coven for a long time. It hasn’t been used for two generations. As Mina-ssi probably explained to you, a talent like yours is very rare. Even the almighty doesn’t possess this type of talent.”

“Isn’t the almighty capable of everything?” Gwiboon asked.

“The almighty is capable of the seven wonders but many witches have their own special talent, something they are born with. A talent not every witch can have, even the Almighty. Foresight, telling are those types of talent.” Sunny smiled gesturing to the ball, “Why don’t you try it?”

Gwiboon shook her head, “I don’t know how.”

Sunny gently pulled her closer, “Hold your hands here, look deep into the crystal, clear your mind see what it has to show you.  Don’t force it.”

Gwiboon did as she was told. The picture came slowly, at first it was very small. She leaned in close to see it more closely. She saw Minjung covered in blood, Jonghee was there sobbing. She didn’t know what was happening. She was there confused and Eunsook was flipping through a book. Taeyeon stood the furthest away, she had blood on her, she looked scared. They were in Gwiboon’s room and she was standing over Minjung.  Mouths moved but she couldn’t hear anything, then it came a soft whisper in her mind Vitalum Vitalis.

She pulled back, frightened. Sunny leaned toward her, “What did you see?”

“Nothing,” She stood, “Nothing. I didn’t see anything. It’s stupid.” She backed away from her, “I don’t want this. I don’t want to use my ‘talent’. I want to go home.”

“Your cards?”

Gwiboon held up her hand for the second time that day, “I always have my cards.”

She rushed up to her room passing the other girls. She didn’t come down until dinner. Mina gave her an expectant look but Gwiboon already knew that she and Sunny spoke about what happened with the crystal ball. She was the last to arrive at the table and the only open spot was beside Minjung.

“I was starting to think you wouldn’t be joining us.” Mina commented.

Gwiboon kept silent but Sunny continued, “You certainly do always have your cards.”

Gwiboon didn’t reply that it was because she couldn’t get rid of them. She didn’t want them snooping even more.

“You’ve been up in your room all evening you haven’t had the chance to properly acquaint yourself with Minjung. You’re the same age, so you should become good friends.” Mina began, “You know what it’s like being new here and she has the room across from yours. You can help herself feel at home.”

“This place isn’t a home.” Gwiboon grumbled.

“Gwiboon-ah,” Eunsook chided, “Don’t talk like that.”

“It’s ok,” Sunny smiled, “You’re still adjusting and of course you miss your family but you’ve come here for a reason Gwiboon-ah. You can’t simply go back to the life you had before. Things have changed and the coven has done a lot to protect you, all of you girls. All we ask is that you take the time to master your talents then you can return to your normal lives without causing anymore troubles for yourself or your families. We’ve all gone through this. It’s a hard process but accepting it and becoming close with your sisters can help.”

Gwiboon stood, “I liked being an only child.” She took her plate from the maid, “I’ll eat upstairs. Don’t worry about retrieving my plate I’ll bring it down with I’m done.”

When she was gone Minjung spoke. “She left her cards.”

Mina only shrugged sipping at her wine, “They find their way to her soon. Don’t worry about them.”

Unfortunately for Gwiboon Sunny stayed. Any moment Gwiboon was out of her room Mina and Sunny would try to coax her into joining a lesson or talking with the other girls. She turned them down every time. When Mina and Sunny left the house, giving Gwiboon a chance to leave her room, the other girls were there to antagonize her.  Eunsook would ask her to reconsider joining in. Jonghee would make jokes at her expense, and Taeyeon would slyly insult her. Minjung kept herself quiet, only once speaking to Gwiboon to ask if her room was sound proof. Gwiboon did her best to avoid Minjung there was something different about her. She had weird visions about Minjung. Minjung, who was tall, beautiful and loved soccer, put butterflies in her stomach and she knew it was dangerous.

Today Sunny and Mina were out of the house. Minjung saw the other girls down stairs showing off talents to Minjung.
“Nothing seriously?”

“My grandmother had me sent here,” Minjung shrugged, “She said it was in me and they just sent me here. 'Before anything happens' that’s what my parents kept saying.”

“So you’re talentless?” Taeyeon giggled, “That must suck. You can’t do anything?”

Minjung shrugged. “Not that I know of, why do you all have a lot of talents or something?”

“I have three talents,” Jonghee grinned, “but it’s all about collecting wonders. So far I only have two wonders, telekinesis and transmutation. I’m working on pryokinesis.”

“I have two wonders,” Taeyeon added smirking, “Pyrokinesis and telekinesis. I’m working on a few others.”

When Minjung turns to Eunsook, she answers with a soft smile, “Telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and concilium, but I have a talent outside of wonders too.”

Minjung turned to Gwiboon who was shuffling her deck, “What about you? Do you have any?”

Gwiboon glared at her cards, “I don’t care about wonders and talents.”

“So you don’t have any?” Minjung asked.

Eunsook answered for her, “Our Gwiboon is a natural witch. She doesn’t practice. She’s goes at her own pace.”

“When will I get talents?” Minjung questioned, “And if I don’t ever get any what then? Do I get to go home?”

“Well if you were brought here you’re a witch, even if you don’t develop wonders, there are plenty of other talents you can have. You don’t need talents or wonders to learn simple spells and potions either.” Eunsook explained, “It can be very useful to you. It’s just our generation is being considered for Almighty so having wonders is impressive if you want to be a candidate.”

“I want to learn a wonder, isn’t there an easy one I could learn?”

That’s when Gwiboon decided it was time to return to her room. She couldn't stand that Minjung wanted to be a part of this when she could easily pass for normal. She ignored Eunsook’s frown, the way Taeyeon and Jonghee both rolled their eyes and left. Once in her room she became more upset. There on her desk was that stupid crystal ball.

“She came into my room,” She grumbled stomping over to the item.

She picked it up only to see something inside it. She peered closer. There was the bloodied Minjung, Gwiboon was holding her hand, and leaning close to her stopping just short of a kiss. The whisper came again vitalum vitalis.

She set the ball down immediately, now afraid to touch it. The words stayed with her but she hadn't a clue what they meant. So she went to the library hoping to find what she needed, it was the only way the visions would stop. She was casually flipping through a book about telling when she heard the screams. Eunsook ran into the room, hurriedly looking through the shelves until she found the book she needed. She was visibly shaken.

“What was that? What happened?”

“Gwiboon we need you come with me,” She said taking her hand.

In the hall Taeyeon levitated Minjung, she was covered in blood. Jonghee was freaking out, “Oh my god what should we do?”

“We have to lie her down somewhere.” Taeyeon said.

“My room,” Gwiboon started, “If Mina and Sunny come home they won’t hear. You've already been plenty loud.”

So they rushed her into her room and laid Minjung on her bed. Taeyeon backed away. “What do we do? What do we do?She’s still not breathing.”

“Oh my god, she’s dead. Gwiboon you have to help us. It was an accident.” Jonghee cried, “We were just practicing telekinesis. We were trying to show her. I didn’t think she could do it. It was an accident what will happen if Mina-sunbae sees this? Unnie what are we going to do?”

“We can bring her back Jonghee calm down,” Eunsook said showing them a page in the book, “See we can bring her back, Vitalum Vitalis. It says we can blow life back into her. Literally, that’s all we need to do. We can bring her back.”

“That spell is one of the most difficult spells there are, it’s one of the seven wonders. How are we supposed to do that?” Jonghee shrieked, “It’s just us and clueless natural. We don’t have the power for that.”

Eunsook took a deep breath her eyes teary, “There’s four of us, we’ll call the corners if we have to. We can’t just do nothing. Minjung needs us.”

“That’s insane.” Jonghee turned to Taeyeon first who simply shook her head and then Gwiboon, “Say something.”

Gwiboon leaned down before Minjung and took her hand. “She’s pretty.”

“Gwiboon what the hell is wrong with you!”

She opened Minjung’s mouth, took a deep breath and blew slowly. Minjung’s chest jerked once, twice. Gwiboon let the air out slowly until she was out of breath, “Vitalum Vitalis.”

Minjung’s eyes flashed opened and she took a deep breath before several panting breaths. For a long time that was all anyone could hear and then the whimpering from the door as Taeyeon broke down. Eunsook now unpaused ran to the bed to check Minjung’s wound. Minjung looked to her with wide eyes.

“You’re pretty,” Gwiboon mumbled before it all went black.
