Drinking = social activity; an excuse to talk, or dance, or whatever Getting drunk = feels nice, and everybody relaxes Puking brains out = not fun when it happens to you, but entertaining when you dodge that bullet and it happens to someone else. It's some kind of sanctioned sadistic satisfaction.
Case in point - this guy:
That was a good night. When it came time to go home, Don and I realized this guy was gone. We lived in the same building so we would have gone home together, but he had wandered off. We learned later that he woke up on the train, several cities away, still covered in makeup and still wearing stockings but no pants with his shirt and tie, and he'd used his coat for a bucket. Heh heh.. I'll still be laughing at him ten years from now.
