My husband and I went out to a local restaurant last night that featured a belly dancer. When she was near our table, she looked at me, paused in her dancing, and asked, "Are you a belly dancer?" When I said yes, she said excitedly, "I knew it! I just knew it! You look like a belly dancer!" Then she completely stopped dancing (while her music was still playing!) and started asking me where I dance and with whom. It was strange that she stopped dancing completely during her number to chat, but it was kind of nice, too. We discovered we've had a teacher in common. Now, I really wonder what made her ask me that. Was it just a great line to ask a female patron...or perhaps we've seen each other around before?
