so i thought this was cool.
i'm chillin' at work and i had to send a book to canada (ironically, amy, to york!). the address i had to go on looked a bit off - the postal code didn't look like it was in the right place. so i did the obvious and googled "addressing a letter to canada" and the first page it spat at me was a wikipedia page. i found this post on the "canada postal service" or somesuch page.
"In 1974, staff at Canada Post's Montreal office were noticing a considerable amount of letters addressed to Santa Claus coming into the postal system, and those letters were being treated as undeliverable. Since those employees did not want the writers, mostly young children, to be disappointed at the lack of response, they started answering the letters themselves. The amount of mail sent to Santa Claus increased every Christmas, up to the point that Canada Post decided to start an official Santa Claus letter-response program in 1983. Approximately one million letters come in to Santa Claus each Christmas, including from outside of Canada, and all of them are answered, in the same languages in which they are written. Canada Post introduced a special address for mail to Santa Claus, complete with its own postal code:
SANTA CLAUS
NORTH POLE H0H 0H0
CANADA
H0H 0H0 was chosen because it looks like “Ho ho ho.”"
neat, huh? viva canadia.

also, vinokourov and all of team astana (including well-placed andreas kloden) were invited to leave (read: pulled from) the tour because one of his doping tests came back positive for blood that came from a third party. holy hell. if this is all true, that's 1)lame and 2) super lame because if you're going to dope, i'd sort of expect someone like vinokourov, who's been around a while, to use a more advanced method. third party blood doping is one of the most obvious and easy-to-catch doping methods out there. i have no idea how many of these doping allegations hold water anymore. incorrect test results? truth? who knows.
in other news, my family is going on vacation =0 i know - crazy. we got a camp in old forge for the week. it'll be neat to actually spend more than a day up there, seeing as it's one of my favorite places on earth.
that's about it! i hope everyone is well! much love, kids.
=)
EDIT:
michael rasmussen, the current leader of the tour, was just pulled from the race by his team. argh! the case so far: he didn't complete the necessary paperwork describing his whereabouts for the second quarter. he said, "whoops, my bad yeah i forgot, but i definitely called UCI and i faxed the papers over. i spoke to ann so-and-so." too bad that ann so-and-so hadn't started working there yet. and now, apparently, it turns out that he lied about where he during those three months. he said he was in mexico when was actually in italy. again, i have no idea if this is all true and how much of it is rabobank being nervous with the advent of the vinokourov case. either way, it's a damn shame to say the least.
