my answer was too long to fit into one comment ;)

FOR READERS

How many hours per week would you say that you spend reading fanfiction?: Lately? Less than three or four hours, in the past it was non stop, it depends on if there is a good story out there that I'm hooked on.

What types of fanfiction do you most enjoy? (genre, fandom, pairings, etc): Alias: Syd/Vaughn, X-files: Mulder/Scully

Why do you enjoy reading fanfiction instead of original fiction or novels?: I enjoy reading both, fanfiction is not so different from regular fiction in my mind, it is just written about characters I am used to seeing on the television screen, so I am connected to them on another level. I have the same level of attachment for fictional characters whether on t.v. or in print.

What do you consider to be 'good-quality fanfic'? What will 'hook' you into reading a story?: A quality fanfic is one that is written well and has a good plot as well as good characterization and romance. Really good, different writing will hook me, the usage of imagery and tension as well as how the characters behave.

For Readers:

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of reading online fiction versus the traditional book?: The advantages of reading online fiction is that it is readily available and free to read, no purchase necessary and there is a great abundance. The disadvantages are waiting for an update from the author, sometimes the quality of the writing is not as good as published authors and it can become a pain in the ass to sit at the computer for too long, hunched over reading.

that was fun :)
