In the grand scheme of things, life isnt too bad. Sure, he's slowly going insane. Sure, he's still trying to find solid ground after it was ripped up from under him. Sure, things could be a lot better. But, pound for pound (or kilo for kilo, thangyewverymuch), life could be a whole lot worse for our protagonist.
He's not miserable, though he could be if he lets himself be. He focusses on things that, in the end, dont really matter because they arent real, but thats just his way of dealing. Or not dealing, but not experiencing. Yeah, that works. For now.
He's safe, for a given value of safe. He's ok, for a given value of fu....er...ok. He's alive. That matters.
Everything else is just decoration.
By the way, I have to say this - Hayden Christiensen, please, please stop "acting". You destroyed Eragon (or, rather, you were one of many things that destroyed Eragon, which I enjoyed as a book immensely), and now thanks to your lack of acting skills, you have made Jumper unwatchable. Every line you uttered made me cringe. That is all.
