“Sam,” Dean stood in the doorway of the bedroom eyes fixed on picture hanging on the far wall carefully not looking at the bed. Despite his best efforts he’d noticed when he first came in the way Sam and Elias slept spooned back to front with Sam curled protectively around the smaller man. Dean closed his eyes and breathed. He wished they’d never heard of this town. Everything had changed since they came; nothing would ever be the same. There was a sigh from the bed, and Sam sat up blankets spilled down around his waist revealing his broad shoulders and strong torso. Dean looked over at him, since he was no longer wrapped around Elias, naked little brother was nothing new, but the sight of the hickey on the side of Sam’s neck and the smaller love bites scattered over his chest made Dean frown. Sam huffed a laugh.
“Dean everything changes,” he said with a glance to where Elias was pretending to sleep on the bed beside him, something that was going to change after far too short a time. It was time to go. “Bobby found something?” Sam asked and Dean’s glower grew darker when Sam didn’t even attempt to hide the fact he could read his mind. Sam was still looking at Elias and didn’t notice. Dean rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, he did. It’s time to roll Sammy. Salem Massachusetts, People are dying.” Dean waited long enough for Sam to nod before he left them alone. He knew they’d be on the road before breakfast. Saving people was what they did, who they were. Dean was confident that Sam hadn’t changed so much that he’d let the challenge go unanswered. What he wasn’t sure of was how many of them would be on their way to Salem Village in a couple hours. He was determined not to worry about it and focused on their upcoming job as he went to finish throwing his stuff into his duffel. Witches were always a barrel of laughs.

“So it’s time,” Elias’ voice was muffled by the pillow. He didn’t move just let his being soak up Sam who lay back down and wrapped Elias in his arms. His breath was hot on the back of Elias’ neck when he spoke.
“We knew it was,” he reminded his lover in a quiet voice. Elias didn’t argue, they had known and had talked about it exhaustively, but he didn’t know if he could his back on what was happening between them and walk away.
“We are not just walking away.” Sam told him, though Elias knew it. They had their own lives, they both had things to do, responsibilities that made ‘happily ever after’ unlikely if not impossible. And there was Dean. Elias feared that one day jealousy and bitterness would be born from that fact, but for now there was only a resigned acceptance of what couldn’t be changed. Sam was going with Dean, and Elias was going to train Jane to hunt. The swamp lights in Florida were a good job to start, despite the way she’d been thrown headfirst into the job they’d just finished.
The ghost-witch was gone without a trace, and with no information about who he was or a way to track him they’d been forced to let him go. The murders had stopped and the other ghosts responsible for them were gone. Sam and Elias were fully recovered. Jane’s injuries almost completely healed. The short term lease Elias had taken on the house expired that day. It was past time to go, but Elias didn’t move. His hunger was quiet, satisfied in a way that he hadn’t experienced since it had awakened in him at puberty. He didn’t want to leave Sam. Sam made him more human than he’d felt in years.
A kiss brushed Elias’ shoulder, and he felt the hard edge of Sam’s teeth there briefly. Dread of the coming seperation wove through the tapestry of their emotions, dark threads pulled from both sides. Elias turned in Sam’s arms and pressed close against him. He could feel the strong beat of Sam’s heart against his chest. Sam’s hand came up and cupped Elias’ face, they kissed. The sound that escaped Elias was pure desperation. He held Sam tight and buried his face under his chin. Their legs tangled and they clung together physically and emotionally. The night was gone; they needed a moment, a second longer as if somehow that would be enough.
“Sam, move it,” Dean’s voice from the hallway, his fist banging hard on the door. Elias let Sam go and moved away. Sam’s eyes followed him but he didn’t protest. Elias went alone to shower and Sam got dressed instead of following him.

Sam shoved the last of their stuff into the trunk of the Impala and slammed it closed. It shut in unison with the Pontiac’s trunk. He looked up and met Elias’ eyes. Despite the pain that leaving the other man was to his heart he grinned and was relieved when Elias’ flashed in return. Jane and Dean were on the porch talking quietly.
“Ready, Dean,” Sam called but he moved towards Elias who met him halfway. Their eyes met and Elias gave him a roguish grin. He was in his black trench coat, collar turned up against the cold, a dark green ski cap pulled down over his hair and rolled so it didn’t hide his face. Sam grinned and touched the cap.
“Whenever I see green it’s going to make me think of you,” he said. Elias’ grin shifted to wicked and even without touching him Sam knew what he was thinking and laughed. He reached for Elias who went willingly into his arms. “God, I’m going to miss you.” Sam whispered. Elias’ hand slid up the back of Sam’s parka and under his shirts. Bare and cold against Sam’s skin it made him shudder but that contact was all they needed to bring their emotions together. For a brief intense moment Sam saw himself through Elias’ eyes. Head back and laughing, intent, solemn, dangerous, passionate it all flashed through their link and regardless of his expression Sam seemed to be lit from within and was far, far more beautiful than he really was. It ended and Sam was left gasping with the intensity of it. He crowded Elias back against the Pontiac, surrounding him. His gloved hands cupped Elias’ face and their mouths came together.
Dean watched frowning and shook his head. He didn’t want Elias with them dogging their every step. A quad of hunters would attract too much attention. There was only one answer to their dilemma though he hadn’t wanted to face it. There were husband and wife hunting teams; it wasn’t unprecedented. Dean watched his brother dominate the smaller man, and let himself really see for the first time the way Elias submitted himself to Sam. Elias was smaller, but in no way weaker, and the way he trusted Sam spoke volumes about what was happening between them. Dean supposed they would be the first husband + husband hunting team. Dean allowed himself a small smile. He didn’t know anything about how gay relationships worked, but even though Elias submitted himself readily to Sam, Dean didn’t find himself thinking of either of them as a girl. Watching them Dean began to understand for the first time that being gay didn’t mean a couple guys playacting a heterosexual relationship, it meant building something between two people who both happened to be men.
“Dean?” Jane said his name, her voice filled with concern. No one could do that the way a woman could. He grinned at her very happy that he didn’t have to try and work out the dynamics of being in love with a dude; at least he had an excuse for not understanding women. He hugged Jane under his arm.
“I’m good,” he told her. He wasn’t sure he agreed with training the tiny woman to be a hunter, but damn if he was going to drive off alone. He frowned regretting the present he’d left for Elias in his car but shrugged as he moved through the snow towards the cars. It had to come out some time. The house stood dark and silent behind them already stripped of their presence as if they’d never been there. As Dean approached, Sam looked up. He paused long enough to lean and kiss Elias once more.
“Good bye.” He whispered against Elias’ mouth. He let Elias out of his arms. “Let’s Roll.” Sam called to Dean with a grin that left his older brother gaping. Sam moved to the passenger side of the Impala and opened the door. Elias opened the driver’s side of the Pontiac and their eyes met on more time. Elias flashed his devil may care grin, Sam grinned back and they got into their cars.

“You know I was going to let you go with him,” Dean said when they were several miles down the road, “don’t pretend you didn’t read it in my mind.” The roads were slick but it wasn’t snowing for a change and Dean’s hands were relaxed, not white knuckled on the wheel as they’d seemed to be since they crossed into Dakota. Sam stared out into the morning, watched the sunlight reflect off the bright snow. He wasn’t sure yet how he felt that his secret mind reading wasn’t a secret any more. He considered pretending Dean was over estimating his talents but finally he sighed and turned to look at his brother. Dean’s eyes were fixed on the road and his jaw was set a sure sign he was unhappy. Sam wondered if he was unhappy that his thoughts were easier for Sam to read than the newspaper, or if he was just pissed that Sam hadn’t allowed him his noble gesture.
“Meeting Elias doesn’t change what we have to do,” Sam reminded his brother, “Dad’s still gone and we still haven’t found the thing that killed Mom. Just because it wasn’t demons this time doesn’t mean they aren’t still out there.” Sam settled back in his seat, grunting his irritation that he couldn’t stretch his legs out. “Besides, he’s mine, and he’s not likely to forget it.” Sam gave a self-satisfied smirk and reached over to push in the cassette sticking out of the player. The sounds of Kansas’ Carry on Wayward Son filled the car. The brothers glanced at each other and Sam hit fast forward. “Damn I’m sick of that song.” He muttered.

Elias turned the key to start the engine, but when he was about to put the car in gear he noticed the folded paper on his dash. He picked it with a smile, expecting a note from Sam, but when he unfolded it he discovered it was something printed off the computer. He identified it as an article from Wikipedia. Frowning he began to read, oblivious of Jane in the seat beside him watching with concern. It was an excerpt from a page about a series of books by a guy named Jim Butcher. The focus of the article was a group of vampires supposedly made up by Butcher called the White Court.
The White Court is the most human-like group of vampires. They are similar to succubi and incubi feeding off the emotions and life force of their prey. They are born to their vampiric state, rather than being created. They are for all intents and purposes human until their vampirism manifests sometime around the age of their maturity. Their first feeding (with its subsequent and almost inevitable kill) usually marks their full transformation.
Elias’ hands went cold and his heart pounded as he continued to read.
Their physical performance levels (standing, speed, jump height, endurance and so on) are slightly better than those of ordinary human of equivalent size and health. They can also channel unused emotional energy as fuel for performance boosts of limited duration. Their power derives from an internal demonic essence they call the "Hunger" which acts like a battery. If they refrain from feeding for too long, the "Hunger" drives them into a frenzy where they must feed (almost always killing their victims), and can drive them permanently insane.
Scrawled under it was a short note.
“Don’t make me come after you. Dean.”
Elias slowly folded the note.
“Are you ok? What is it?” Jane asked anxiously as the blood drain from Elias face. Elias tucked the note into his pocket and put the car in gear. He glanced in the side mirror to watch as he backed the car out. His met his own eyes briefly before breaking the contact and focusing on the reflected end of the driveway.
“I’m fine.” He said. “It’s nothing. Nothing I didn’t already know.”
The End.
I hope everyone enjoyed Hallway and that you will join me, when after a short hiatus, Sam, Elias, Dean and Jane return in Kiss the Rain as their story continues

Many thanks to Thriving Ivory for the song that made this story possible for me to write. Now that you have finished the story Perhaps you can feel it in the song..or the song in the story.
I would like to acknowledge Jim Butcher the author of the Dresden Files. He is the originator of the perfect incubus. I borrowed heavily from his White Court in my creation of Elias.
