To say that being out in the open was dangerous was a funny statement - he'd made enough effort in that he was wearing casual clothes, and a hat to shield the attentive looks of passersby. It was strange really, walking through the City with Alphonse at his heel. He was used to maybe Havoc or Hawkeye walking with him, always a step behind...

"Did you bring the list?" He asked, looking over at the alchemist at his side - He was only just getting used to having the younger Elric around, even though they shared the same flat.

Alphonse looked up at the taller man as he had been reviewing the shopping list. Strange how they could be doing something so mundane in a City where people had greater powers than even alchemy could afford. It was just something he had to get used to he supposed.

"Yeah...It's right here, Colonel Mus--" Alphonse had started to say, but then stopped in his tracks. There. Blonde hair tied back in a ponytail. Taller, more mature than he remembered. There was no mistaking it however.

His eyes widened in shock, his mouth slightly agape. It had to be...but at the same time, it couldn't be.

The Colonel was about to look up at Alphonse as he produced the 'shopping list' he'd managed to write up. It brought a pleased smile to his face that he had company here, even if Alphonse had gone against his word during that strange period with the 'aliens' at least he could still have Alphonse on his side.

When his name died on Al's lips he stopped just as the younger alchemist had done, and instantly his hands were out of his pockets - the trained soldier in him reaction as his gaze flicked across to whatever had stopped Al.

The hand lowered instantly, and the expression in his face drained.

"...Fullmetal?" He whispered, loud enough to be heard by both brothers.

Frustrated didn't even come close to it as he stood quite still for a time. It was like it was all for nothing and it pissed him off, it wasn't fair and it was, frankly, depressing. His head hanged forward, shoulders sagged as he swallowed down a lump in his throat. Ahh, well. He'd just do what he always did in these situations and drag himself back up to his feet, metaphorically speaking, and carry on.

Something made him lift his head though, his golden eyes wide before his head turned sharply, his heart skipping a beat as his vision focused on the two figures before him. It wasn't possible. It just... wasn't. And he sort of stood there dumbstruck for a moment, unable to move, speak or even think. Was this some kind of sadistic joke?
