I just finished
my first seminar paper here at Catholic and thought that I would replace my old paper from Gonzaga with it.
This paper is shorter, better written, and more generally interesting.
It is about when a human embryo or fetus receives a soul from God or when it becomes a person. Is at conception or later?
I look at the history of the question up from Aristotle until today, presenting and evaluating arguments for both sides. Then, at the end, I say why I think the question is fundamentally unanswerable.
Strictly speaking, the paper is not about abortion or embryonic stem-cell research, but I did include a short appendix on abortion because some of the authors I reviewed brought it up.
(Also, somewhere in the paper I cite an episode of Star Trek. Find it!)
