So, I was thinking about Dawson's Creek.....
I'm not sure why, really. I guess I just miss it. The show had the tendency to piss me off the way General Hospital still does, but as we all know, that hasn't deterred me yet.
Basically, the thing I hated most about Dawson's Creek was....well, Joey. Honestly. I thought she was whiny, hypocritical, and an idiot. Dawson - meh. I had hopes for a Dawson/Audrey pairing, since Audrey could actually force Dawson into maybe gaining a personality. Hell, if anyone could do it, Audrey could. But that hope was taken away from me.
Pacey, I found amusing. And if I had to choose between Dawson and Pacey, whether in general or for Joey, then I would pick Pacey. Besides, his relationship with Andie proves that he has a thing for the hypocritical whiners anyway.
So, if I hated the two main characters, why was I there? Basically, because of all the other characters. I adored Jen Lindley. Sure, she was coated in 67 layers of "I'm jaded and wise beyond my years!" with a good dosing of "I'm screwed up because my parents didn't love me enough!", but she called everyone else on their crap, and was the one person in that cast that, if they were real and I had to choose, I'd want to be friends with.
And poor gay Jack MacPhee. Poor gay hot Jack. (If we choose to forget that first god-awful haircut, which I do..). Jen and Jack always had the connection that I cared about the most in the whole show. My favorite episode of all time is the senior ski trip episode. And not because Joey finally gave it up to Pacey, because I could really give a rat's ass, especially after she'd bitched and moaned about it forever and ever. But because of Jen and Jack. When they got drunk, and Jack admitted that he was scared he'd never find someone he loved the way he loved Jen, and they nearly had sex. Between that, and of course the series finale, when Jack told Jen she was his soulmate, I can't even begin to tell you how weepy and mushy I got.
Screw Dawson and Joey, Jen and Jack were always IT for me.
There were other characters that came and went over the years that I could appreciate. Audrey, for instance. Audrey could be over-the-top, but I didn't mind her. Again, like Jen, she didn't hesitate to call the group on their crap. Which they sorely needed, because if ever there was a bigger bunch of hypocrites around, point them out to me. A highlight is always the Christmas dinner when Audrey lost it and pointed out how fucked-up they all were. Terribly uncomfortable? Yes. Probably true? Yes.
I think I'm also the only person who actually enjoyed Emma, also. They totally dropped the ball on Emma, in every sense, which I found sad. I know it was the last season, and they were trying to cram everything in, but still. First, they played with the Emma/Pacey flirtation, but it really went nowhere. Then, Emma revealed that she was being deported, and Jack offered to marry her so she could stay in the US. Which I loved, because it was noble and endearing and so typical of my sekrit gay boyfriend. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and Emma got shipped off. *sigh*
And, of course, Eddie, but I'm pretty biased because that was Oliver Hudson, and you know I adore Oliver Hudson. He had this sweet love for Joey, which I never really got because I found it fairly impossible to love Joey, myself, but she continuously took shits on him until he got fed up and left. *le sigh* Joey, Joey, Joey.
And Professor Todd Manning Hetson. Who I think I just liked because he rode Joey's ass like a ride at the carnival, and come on, that's always fun.
Anyway, yes. Dawson's Creek, man. The memories! *sniffles* I think I need to buy the series finale DVD. So I can cry and snot all over myself, yet again.
I realize that was fairly pointless, but come on! Reminscing, people!
