I can't find any icons of my (former) favorite Tree Hill boyfriend, crack!Dawson (creek!Dawson will simply not do), so I'm boycotting OTH icons right now. Instead, we get Lindsey.....my Angel boyfriend who is not Lorne. Oh, Christian Kane - seriously, why didn't anybody ever tell me about you before? (ETA: Okay, I caved. Sorry, Lindsey....but you've been replaced by Clay/Quinn. Still friends?)
But, I digress.
I might have to eat my earlier words and post an icon of Clay, who is totally my NEW Tree Hill boyfriend. I sort of love him, and by that I mean - I love him A LOT. I'm actually kind of nervous about it, because it's rare that I like a character so much right away. Usually, if this happens, it falls apart fairly quickly. I'm also really loving Quinn, and I'm kind of secretly hoping she and Clay get married and have adorable quippy children who will give Jamie a run for his money.
You see where this is not going to work out well for me.
Seriously, though - taking out Lucas and Peyton and adding in Clay and Quinn has done WONDERS for my feelings towards this show. (Actually, a small part of me misses making fun about Lucas.....shh, it's a secret!). The only thing better would be if Mouth fell into a dark abyss and Owen came back to sweep Millie off her feet. And, well, crack!Dawson and Chriskeller came back, but we already know how I feel about those two young gents.
(.....though, if they came back, they are places for them. Haley could produce Chriskeller's new album and hilarity will ensue! Julian can pal around/produce movies with crack!Dawson and hilarity will ensue!......Okay, fine, I'll stop).
Is it bad that my favorite part of this whole "Nathan swears to god he did NOT put it THERE" storyline is Clay? We focus on Nathan or Haley and I'm like "Aww, that sucks for you guys....but uhm, where's your agent buddy? I miss him." I really believe that he wants to do what is best for Nathan....and his glee in telling whats-her-face (Renee?) off at the end was great. It's obvious, at least to me, that he cares about not just Nathan, but Haley and Jamie as well. It's an ugly situation and he's trying to find the best way out of it. It's kind of his job, even if they don't like the ideas he comes up with.
Haley's rant at Clay.....I get that she's angry, I get that she's upset. Who wouldn't be? But as Clay said himself, Nathan is a grown man. Yes, Clay threw parties and acted like a wild child....but that doesn't mean Nathan had to. If her husband is really that weak-willed....well, then, the problem is not Clay.
However, I get that she needed to lash out at somebody, and he was the best option. I'm glad that he seemed to get that and not take it too personally. I can see both sides of this for Haley and Nathan, honestly. Yes, it looks bad.....but what is Nathan supposed to do? Never speak to a female again? Never pose for a picture with what he thinks is a fan? Any person he talks to or poses with could become a threat. Sad but true. Unfortunately, it's part of his job to interact with the fans. If he stops, then he loses his popularity and image as a nice guy. There's really no way to win in this situation.
But did I get what she was saying? Yeah. It doesn't matter if he screams from the rooftops that he never laid a hand (or other body parts) on this woman - people are going to believe the worst. Regardless of the image he had before this, regardless of how devoted he is to his family afterwards - there are always going to be people who believe he's that jerk who cheated on his wife and knocked up some random girl.
Mouth's involvement......uhm, YAWN. Didn't we already do this story, just with Lucas beating up a high school kid? (Oh, LUCAS....seriously, I kind of miss the inherent comedy that he brings. What is WRONG with me?) Mouth is a sports reporter who, unfortunately, happens to be friends with a sports star. That means he has to make some tough decisions about which side he is on. Okay, I get it. And it would be interesting, I guess - if we hadn't ALREADY DONE this storyline.
However, it was all kind of worthwhile for the producer telling Mouth that he is not newsworthy. Because, YES. If it doesn't work out with me and Clay, that guy is my new boyfriend.
They seem to be totally ignoring the fact that Mouth and Millie are dating and playing them in different stories, and for that I say - THANK YOU SHOW. Millie is awesomesauce and Mouth isn't.....he's more like applesauce, which I loathe. (I'm running off the rails with random analogies tonight). The less we see of those two together, the better. Let's just pretend Mouth is a mistake Millicent made when she was young and foolish.
Jamie Scott to the rescue! How much do I love that Jamie is routinely trotted out as the most mature person on the entire canvas? If Antwon Tanner leaves (and I'm assuming he has to...), I am going to miss his scenes with Jamie the most.
But back to bashing Mouth.....I actually yelled at my TV that Mouth was a douchebag during his talk with Skills, because - well - Mouth is a douchebag. "Well, why didn't you just say anything?" Oh, RIGHT. Because Mouth was totally in the dark about the fact that Skills wanted to stay? Uhm, no. Mouth is not stupid (so I've been told, though I don't believe it personally), so he knew what was going on. Did he really give Skills the chance to talk it out? No, he was too busy being an ass monkey about it all. So in the end, for him to act like Skills was a retard for not bringing it up? UGH. SHUT UP MOUTH.
....I really feel like I say that every week. I think it's this season's version of "OH MY GOD I HATE LEYTON SO MUCH AHHHH".
Dan and Rachel - you know, I liked the back story. Of COURSE they met in a strip club. But more than that....within the last episode or so, we've seen Rachel as this master manipulator, and kind of get the idea that she's pretty bad for Dan. That scene in the motel, though.....if not for Rachel, Dan probably would have drank himself into oblivion. Yes, she's a money-making opportunist. Yes, they both seem to be in this for different reasons. But the bottom line is - Rachel probably saved Dan's life that night. It becomes kind of obvious WHY he's so besotted with her.
Brooke, Julian, and Alex - Okay, I know I'm supposed to be seeing a flirtation between Julian and Alex, but I don't. On her side, sure, but on his side, I buy it as sheer entertainment on his part. He likes Alex. He loves Brooke. And to be honest, I don't blame him for liking Alex. If you look at his scenes with her, she's been nothing but cute and endearing and quirky. She hasn't been the bitchy diva that everyone else has seen. Am I afraid that the show is going to play it up? Unfortunately, yes. Julian and Alex are going to bond over the movie business, and Brooke is going to feel left out and wonder if she forced Julian to make the wrong decision. (Not that she really "forced" him....but you get my drift).
Alex herself......I am loving the Millie/Alex scenes more and more each week. The tequila scene ALONE was hilarious. (And yes, I found Alex's interaction with Clay equally hilarious. I'm all about Clay/Quinn, but I've gotta admit, Clay and Alex were a bit cute together).
The thing about this episode that I think I loved the most was this new core group that is forming of Brooke/Haley/Quinn/Millicent. I want more girls' nights out, even if this one involved Haley moping and Millie being forcefed tequila. I LOVE that Brooke is reaching out to Quinn. She's going through a rough time right now, and it's nice to see someone else giving her a shoulder to lean on. Her first few episodes, she's been a bit isolated, spending almost every scene with Haley (or Jamie). If she's a big part of this show, and it's obvious she's supposed to be, it's really going to help to branch her out amongst the other characters.
Random side note: I'm still really surprised that nobody (Nathan, Haley, Brooke, etc.) has mentioned Rachel's marriage to Dan Scott. There is no way they haven't heard about it, so I'd just like a line tossed in somewhere where somebody goes "Rachel married DAN. UGH." That's comedy gold right there!
Next week: So either Clay and Quinn are going to have a wild night of passion and have to work past the awkwardness afterwards, or Quinn is going to throw herself at Clay and he'll be a gentleman and turn her down.....and they'll have to work past the awkwardness afterwards. I vote for the latter!

I think it's official.....I think Gossip Girl and I are broken up now, or at least taking an indeterminate hiatus from one another. I watched the first few minutes, and yes, the Blair/Dan/Georgina scene, followed by the Serena/Dan/Vanessa scene, was made of win.....but I still turned the TV off a few minutes later. It's just hard for me to get into it anymore, even with crazy-good actors like Westick and Meester. I suspect it's mostly the fact that I'm suffering from what I call Dawsonitis, where it turns out I dislike more characters than ones I actually like. (I think I've mentioned before that I eventually only watched Dawson's for Jen and Jack, because they were soulmates, damn it). (If only the Beek had been allowed to be funny on that show!) Maybe someday, when Taylor Momsen is not imitating Courtney Love, and Serena is, I don't know, a deaf-mute, I'll consider going back. But for right now.....eh. That's my final verdict. Eh.
