brokeback

Thought I'd knock down one of the items on my "to-blog-about" list while waiting for football to start.

I've probably logged more hours sitting in chair in front of a computer than anyone I've ever met. This year has been especially tough for my neck, my back, (my...) due to some intense seat time from my new poker aspirations. Also, I think old age is playing a factor. D: Did a little research and found out that a good chair can make a huge difference for correct posture and alleviating pain and soreness.

The soreness was so bad that my neck would feel numb for days and my lower back would kill me when trying to sleep. I didn't want the pain to affect my ability to play poker as it became my primary source of income and I was making some decent coin. So I was more than willing to invest a decent amount of money on a nice chair.

$750. Memory foam in the seat, adjustable everything, headrest, soft armrests. This is awesome. It's like sitting in marshmallows. The lumbar support is adjustable to the point of perfection. Breathable mesh like the Aeron, combined with soft cushioning. It's really close between this and the Humanscale. The way the Humanscale reclines is a little nicer, but the price difference makes this one a winner for me.

This chair is just beautiful to me. Adjustable everything. SOFT gel armrests are awesome. I could fall asleep in this thing reclined. love it love it love it, but it's the priciest. Seat depth slides out when reclined just like the CXO, but the back support is a little better. $999 ($1300+ with leather, super sexy)

Of course, the Herman Miller Aeron; it's been an office favorite for years. Cheapest for me because it's really easy to find this used after the (dotcom bust saturated the market with these). Comfortable, reclines nicely, great adjustability, but I'm a little wary of hard plastic frame around the seat bottom. The lumbar support is supportive but hard and leaning back in this feels kind of pokey. No headrest, which I would really really like. Still a great chair and the cheapest of the bunch makes me wanna consider this. This is still a $900+ chair retail.

Got lucky and picked up a used blue Aeron for $325 off craigslist. Put in many sessions in this thing and although it's not as comfortable as the others, my back and neck pain have gone down significantly and I've been playing well. I really wish it had a goddamned headrest though. I can sit in this thing naked with no swamp butt. However, farts go straight through the mesh.

Now... I need a footrest.
