HA HA HA I HOPE I FOOLED SOME OF YOU. I went straight for the shoujo side mostly to be a dick, but also because I fucking love me some Mitsukaz Mihara and Yuki Kaori and had to show dem ladies some love. I decided that I would color b&w scans for all of my icons this round.

The second I read the challenge info, I knew I had to use Red Riding Hood. Coloring her was way fun, although I finally had to come to terms with the fact that Yuki Kaori actually isn't a very good artist and has no concept of lighting (or anatomy). MY CHILDHOOD.

CANON CROSSDRESSING ICONS FUCK YES. I got me some Kuranosuke all up in hurr. Coloring him was so, so fun. I'm so glad that I decided to take a walk on the wild side and do a "plain" icon focusing only on my manga coloring, with no real texture use. The bonus challenge was meant to focus on shoes.

We (shoujo) were given the option to make peace with our opponent team via iconning a shounen title, or to continue with our war. I chose peace and was dead set on using Claymore. This icon is bad and I should feel bad. The coloring has no depth and I just don't like it that much.

We had to use a song title from the across the universe soundtrack. I hadn't made icons (especially vg icons) for a good amount of time at this point and the end result was kinda shitty.

One of my favourite types, the next top model inspiration challenge. I chose this Allison Harvard picture that was provided for us, and tried to copy the pose, overall color and vines.

We had to make an icon primarily using a randomly assigned color. Unfortunately I ended up with violet, which I am terrible with. Second icon we had to make focusing on the color we were assigned's complementary color. In retrospect, I really wish I'd known how to use levels at the time I made these.

And psalm 23?! Also at this point my massive boner for Gabriel Belmont had returned. I consider this round in VGB to be my Castlevania round, anyway.

Oh god. When I make triptychs, they all have to be perfectly linked together or I go insane, so this challenge was a nightmare for me due to the guidelines. For the redo icon we just had to make a new icon for the challenge that we scored the lowest on. (I totally bombed Rotation)

AWWWW YISS. Pam is the best mod and even though this thing went on forever, I still didn't want it to end. I found the theme of updating trends from the past to be really fun. We were also given the option to submit bonus icons trying to make the fugliest icons we could for the theme. Top set: Doin' it rite. Bottom: Doin' it wrong.

OH LAWDY. Pam had been threatening a comic sans theme for a while, but had always told us that there'd be a tweest. And the twist was that we had to genderswap a character. I chose Kaworu, and wound up redrawing him to have tits, a more feminine waistline and give him longer hair. And then there was Gutsette... This marks the second time that I've given Guts a terrible makeover, and this time I legit googled "milf porn" and chose the trashiest looking lady.

Oh god this theme. Pam had been pestering me for two textures, an image and some lyrics for ages, but I had no idea what she was gonna do with them so they were all kind of a hodge-podge of not really matching. You can see what I chose here (spoilers: AGALLOCH)
I'd also shown Pam the glorious KENCHIIRO, and she'd been threatening to make a theme involving him and this was it. We had to use lyrics from "I'm Too Sexy" and textures that Pam provided, including the infamous Bacon texture (and that fucking bird).
He was supposed to be used for DiW only, but a few of us decided to make him pretty. I really didn't like the original artist's coloring style, so I recolored Kenchiiro and I like to think that I succeeded in making him a little bit more beautiful than he already was.

THAT. FUCKING. BIRD. We had to hide it somewhere in our icon and were prompted to guess where others hid it during voting. I chose to hide it >>in Shiemi's hairpiece, and apparently I did such a good job of it that I can't even find it anymore.<<

Despite all the effort (I redrew a chunk of the original image) I put into this icon, I'm not pleased with it and I thought for sure that I was going to be eliminated.

Oh gosh, these were the dreaded semifinals. The challenge this time was to go and remake a crappy icon from our past. I was seriously scared that I was going to get eliminated since all of my opponents were awesome as hell and most could color manga, so I decided to step it up and start coloring as well. I hadn't really colored seriously before save for in art courses, and I wound up recoloring Kohei a few times before I was remotely happy with how he looked.

PEEING MYSELF. I was up against Fiends, Ashley and Fee and oh Christ how did I even end up in the finals anyway? I knew I had to color every goddamn thing I'd submit this time (except the bonus, cause uh, I couldn't due to the requirements).
While I'm relatively proud of the coloring I did for my out of the box icon, the overall piece itself is bad and I should feel bad. At least it's... out of the box?
For my free for all icon, I was going through a massive Devilman kick as well as a Kinutani Yuu art kick, so I chose an image from his Devilman spinoff.
The bonus challenge was to remake one of the doing it wrong icons

Not very fond of this coloring. Represented my team via the colors, Reiko from Reiko the Zombie shop and using lyrics from the Cranberry's "Zombie" as that geometric texture.

Being a horrible person, I chose to hide the Edward Cullen dildo (it sparkles) in an image of Panty, because Panty is everyone's favourite slut. (yeah I don't know. I had asked Lils if we could hide dicks in our icons and she said it was ok? So I totally stuck a dick in it.)
The bonus challenge had us interpreting the theme of "seeking" something, and there were a variety of bonus requirements.

I was shitting bricks by the time I had to make these as SB went full-on icon_tournament on us and I was up against Pam, and the end result was going to be very, very obvious. I made the mistake of trying to imitate her style for my second icon (partly because I knew I would lose, mostly because once again I was bored and curious as to how she does it? I still can't figure that shit out man.) and I still wonder if I would have managed to overthrow her if I'd done something more ~*me*~. It really does kind of puzzle me as to why I did that, other than that I guess I was seriously freaking out? I got off my ass and colored something for my first icon and it looks completely like something that I would make, but my second icon is just... I don't know.
Kind of confusing requirements that would take too long for me to explain, you can see them here. Actually the themes were simple: Death and Strength. The point requirements to beat your opponent were nuts.

Being a horrible person, I chose to hide the Edward Cullen dildo (it sparkles) in an image of Panty, because Panty is everyone's favourite slut. (yeah I don't know. I had asked Lils if we could hide dicks in our icons and she said it was ok? So I totally stuck a dick in it.)
The bonus challenge had us interpreting the theme of "seeking" something, and there were a variety of bonus requirements.

Mandatory two icons. For cops we were to icon a figure of authority + specified requirements, robbers had to have text pertaining to the breaking of the law. Fuck yeah the Clash. Sadly that icon is awful.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, HARRY MACDOWEL IS TOTALLY A GIRL WORTH FIGHTING FOR. Requirements: Make an icon of a hero and their love interest + text pertaining to fighting for... something? Bromances were ok as well, so I chose my favourite ever.

challenge 07: what doesn't kill you...
I was shitting bricks by the time I had to make these as SB went full-on icon_tournament on us and I was up against Pam, and the end result was going to be very, very obvious. I made the mistake of trying to imitate her style for my second icon (partly because I knew I would lose, mostly because once again I was bored and curious as to how she does it? I still can't figure that shit out man.) and I still wonder if I would have managed to overthrow her if I'd done something more ~*me*~. It really does kind of puzzle me as to why I did that, other than that I guess I was seriously freaking out? I got off my ass and colored something for my first icon and it looks completely like something that I would make, but my second icon is just... I don't know.
Kind of confusing requirements that would take too long for me to explain, you can see them here. Actually the themes were simple: Death and Strength. The point requirements to beat your opponent were nuts.
