Also in the continuing luscious produce theme: our sweet
local organic CSA now has amazing tomatoes.
Dude, I have never seen anyone so cheerful to provide me with supplemental tomatoes. It is craaaaazy. (We had this discussion at the market last month: there are days where you have just under the number of tomatoes for a recipe and need one more.) Now, to convincing myself that I should blanche all of them and simmer pastitsio sauce to freeze later so that making delicious Cypriotic Lincoln-Log-esque pasta bakes is less of a marathon event. Most fresh produce related cookery in August is based on the premise that I will thank myself later, isn't it? That explains so much about this danged month.
Note to self: find a way to live off of nectar & ambrosia in the future, as I am sure that neither requires cooking at a rolling boil for twenty minutes in 90ºF heat in a house sans air conditioning to prevent botulism.*
* Cue cursing John Steinbeck for more paranoia I didn't need.
