"Is the Duke pixilated, Mr. Clent?"
Clent shuddered. "That is a judgement on me for seeking to extend your vocabulary. If I hear you using such words to describe a duke in my hearing again, I shall put you on a diet of dry verbs and water until you have learned to speak more wisely. [...]"
-Frances Hardinge, Fly By Night
Neither what I had planned to read next, nor what I had planned to give my attention to at all this weekend. But there are days when RSI and arthritis gang up on you and books are the only thing you're fit for. I am narrowly avoiding posting blockquotes of all of it; Fly By Night is just so damn good. Is this what a fantasy of manners should be? I think perhaps yes?
PREVIOUS BLOCKQUOTES:
Fly By Night on homicidal geese,
Fly By Night on patriotism Post Script: I am thinking of closing the comments on the lj feed of this journal, simply because it's so disconcerting for me to split the conversation. There's also the issue of the lj adverts hanging around like bullies waiting for a shakedown on the playground. Would it seriously mess with anyone's bloggish worldview if I closed comments there?
