Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis

Today's Cyanide and Happiness seemed more foreboding than implausibly hilarious. A similar situation is possible currently when a mother decides not to implant an embryo (out of a set of say 5 embryos) during in vitro fertilization for any reason the mother wants. A controversial case occurred when a deaf couple wanted to use IVF to have a deaf child. A British law, however, would prevent couples to implant embryos that have a known "disability" such as deafness, if diagnosed through PGD. If the couple were able to conceive normally, i.e. not through IVF, they would most likely have had a deaf child, in line with the parental desires for a child that fit in with the deaf community they cherish.
