The Coming of Lugh to Tara
When Lugh came to the door at Tara, he was challenged by the door-keepers. "What skills do you have?" He was asked, "for none comes to Tara without skill."
Lugh first responded that he was a carpenter, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a smith, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a champion, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a harper, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a poet, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a magician, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a physician, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a cup-bearer, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
He then said he was a worker of brass, but the door-keepers said they already have one.
Then he asked the door-keepers, "I am a master of all these arts. Do you have anyone within your hall like me?"
And he was invited in, to prove himself at chess with the king, Nuada. And Lugh won every game. He sat in the seat of knowledge, and Nuada knew that Lugh was the right man for the right job.
