While sleeping soundly above the confluence of two roaring creeks, I dreamed a dream I found so vivid, so impressive and elaborate, that I felt I should set it down. I do not believe that dreams hold anything, but I thought this one was nifty.
Here is that dream:
I was driving. I'd left Kansas City that morning, and arrived in Columbus that day. Something told me I should go on, continue down until I reached New York City.
This I did.
I drove into downtown NYC, navigating the streets easily, as if I knew where I was going. I pulled into a hotel parking garage, and proceeded inside, seeking a specific person:
sarah418.
I knew she lifeguarded at this hotel, and sure enough, there she was, up in a chair in a red swimsuit with a white shirt over it. I walked up, and found out when she got off work. When she did, we walked through the building together, talking as we went.
She'd just broken up with her boyfriend, and we talked about him for a while, and how she never got what she wanted out of it. As we walked through the halls of this hotel, I asked her to dinner, and she accepted. We got into an elevator, and took that up to the roof of the hotel.
Atop the hotel, which is a wonder of modern architecture (and we know how much I despise non-functional architecture), there is a restaurant. The tables are open to the air and the skyline of the city, and there are white tablecloths and waiters with little mustaches all around. We sit down and order, talking more.
They have set up a band atop the roof, as well, and they played some amazing music. I asked
sarah418 to dance, and she agreed. We danced for a while, close, and finally, I kissed her. We continued to dance closely, until I felt a hand on my shoulder.
I turned, and behind me was
jcrr. He stepped in and began to dance with
sarah418, leaving me out. Over the noise of the crowd, I caught the feel of the conversation between them.
jcrr was warning her against me, saying that he doesn't trust me. He spoke of heartbreak, cheating, and brought up something I've tried to avoid: his thought that I'm interested in
raherakht, and that I'm trying to rip the two of them apart.
Finally, he placed his hand behind her back and steered her toward the door. I tried to get through, to salvage my date, to tell her that everything
jcrr had said was untrue, but I was blocked by the people dancing in front of the band.
Seeing it was futile, I laughed. I laughed at anger, jealousy, and fear. I laughed about their temporary triumph.
And I set off to find
raherakht.
I found her on the street, coming up behind her. She was surprised to see me, but smiles. We talk for a bit, and finally she gets around to asking why I was there. I relate that I wanted a road trip, and so drove out to Kansas City and back to Columbus, but when I got to Columbus, I made the decision to come see her. Of course, this wasn't true, as I had actually come to see
sarah418.
I tell her about how I saw
sarah418, and about how
jcrr felt he needed to protect her from me. She laughed so hard, tears fell from her eyes, and said that she knew no one needed protection from me.
We walked into a dorm at John Jay, which is where she was living. She flashed her ID at the desk, and we started walking up the stairs to her room. We sat for a while in her room, talking and chatting. We laughed, we threw out innuendos, and we just enjoyed being with each other. It was good.
Finally, we decided it was time to do something else. I suggested the movies, and she said she wanted to see Harry Potter again. I agreed, even though I'd already seen it. We left the dorm, and got on a bus, riding it until we got to the front of the theatre.
As we stepped off the bus, we saw
Emma Watson standing there. We asked her what she was doing, and who she was with, and she replies, "Oh, just some friends." A moment later, another bus arrived, and off stepped
Daniel Radcliffe,
Rupert Grint, and
Richard Harris.
They start to talk about whether we can sit with them, but they're divided. They decide that if we can show that we're really fans, we can see the movie with them.
I reach for my wallet, hoping that I can produce the opening day ticket for
The Prisoner of Azkaban, but alas, I cannot, and so they decide that we aren't big enough fans. They call me a liar for "pretending" to be a big fan, and so we lose our chance to see the movie. It's now sold out, and they go in without us.
I apologize to
raherakht, but I don't feel like it's enough. She says it's okay, but I know she's not thinking that it is. We start walking, and eventually come to the hotel that Sara was working at, and we begin to argue over whether the style is cool or simply obnoxious. I, of course, argue that it is obnoxious and rather annoying, but she seems to find some merit in it and really likes it.
We disagree, and I wake up.
