Apple Tree "Arc D'Art" [mixed media collage]
This piece kind of created itself and I'm not really sure what it is actually. I've dubbed it "Arc D'Art" (arc of art?) and it was inspired by a religious artifact from Italy (shown on the shelf in the photo above, to the right) that is a small engraved hinged wooden arc with a gold-leafed Madonna and child inside.
The trunk of the tree on the front is engraved and the piece is completely handmade, I cut it out with my handy jigsaw from wood trim and added the hinges. The leaves on the tree are collaged papers, torn from magazines and textured paper and sequins form the apples.
Opening the arc reveals a magical scene created from more mixed-media collage, with more papers used, printed media, cookie fortune, and multiple paints and I finished it off with a few coatings of clear shellac. ;)
