As a child, he’d found nothing more terrifying than being alone in his dark, dark bedroom; the centuries might have faded away, but the child’s voice in the back of his mind still cried as he curled into his cold, cold bed.

War had always been an egregious crime against humanity, but never so much in Kiku’s eyes as when he beheld the charred, rotting, stinking flesh that was once Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

No one knew better that Ivan the truth about just how frail humans were; all it took were some words and maybe some smacks and then people were putty in his arms.

Germany was always moving so quickly, trying to do great things, that he never realized he didn’t know how to breath until Feliciano knocked his breath away and taught him how to get it back.

It was the strangest thing, the way Francis’ memories worked; years and decades would blend together into colorful messes, but then there were moments, precious seconds for which he could remember every sound, scent, and sight perfectly.
