My Western Civ professor last semester was very much about history repeating itself. Nearly every class he'd mention that we can find the origins of today's conflicts in history, and he would occasionally point to one moment and history and tell us exactly how it translates to modern day. He was my favorite professor and I'm a little disappointed that I don't have him for the continuation this semester :(

It is funny...especially considering the history that has been lost to the world, too. So many cultures are guilty of either not recording history in the making (such as the Native Americans who had no alphabet and could not write), or destroying anything that could go against their perfect image. Then there's the history that we just haven't figured out the code for...it's so complex and I do wish more people paid attention.

If you don't mind a quick rant, there was a guy I had a major crush on in fact, he's the only one I ever confessed my feelings for and the biggest draw back was his stance on history. He believed that it happened, it's done, and we never need to look at it again. He refused to believe or even see examples of history repeating, and actually admitted that he'd rather stay ignorant because history was boring. Darn near broke my heart hearing that. I'm fine if you don't like history, I'm fine if you find it boring. He refused to admit that there could be wisdom in knowing history, and he'd much rather that no one be forced to learn it in elementary and high schools because there's no point. Just...that bothers me XD

Aw, he really does sound like a smart, knowledgable man.

That is a little sad. It's even more sad because he's not the only one who thinks like this, and it's that ignorance that allows this these things to happen over and over again.

I'm sorry about that experience.
