Winter this year has been rough. Last week we had a cold snap through Wisconsin which left us with -20 degree temperatures and -45 degree windchills. Coop would go outside and his legs would lock up and wouldn't move to the point where I was having to carry him back in the house. He had no accidents though. He's such a trooper and has been great with housetraining.
Now that it's warming a bit, we've been back to our normal walking schedule. Plus, we went to puppy class on Saturday and the dog park Sunday. He's always so excited to see other dogs. There was a dog at the park who snapped at him and was very aggressive. It caused me to go into overprotective Mom mode and I got him out of there fast. I wish people wouldn't bring aggressive dogs to the park and risk traumatizing other dogs. For one, it's against park rules. Secondly, I believe there are better ways than thrusting an aggressive dog into a situation where they're being set up for failure. I understand that it's hard to own a dog who is dog-aggressive, but these owners simply didn't care. To the point where they laughed when their dog tried to bite Cooper and other dogs. Their dog was very large (a mastiff) and could have easily hurt another dog and they found it a laughing matter. I just don't understand that. I hope their dog doesn't hurt anyone, for the dog's sake.
We've been working on our "Leave It" command. It's proving a lot tougher than other commands for Coop. He'll get it, I'm sure. We should be reaching that point in Puppy Class soon, so I'm hoping they'll provide some assistance with the aspects he's struggling with.
