appearance:
Christopher Yaxley does not possess the kind of physique that will get him noticed immediately. With his 5’8 height he is definitely not as tall as most boys his age. His eyes are brown, and there are some people actually complain that he has a strange look when he stares at people - it’s as if he’s thoroughly analysing them, though in reality he rarely ever does such a thing. Christopher’s face usually gives people around him the impression that he’s a very passive person. He has a boring dress style and is prone to pick out dull colours like gray, black, white or brown for his clothes. Christopher is usually seen walking alone. He has a habit of lingering in the hallways when he has nothing particularly interesting to do, so it won’t be too much of a surprise to see him idling at a random corridor with a book in his hand. Because he rarely goes outside, there is a somewhat unhealthy look about his face.
played by:
Luke Treadaway descriptive personality:
Christopher possesses a defensive disposition. One word that seems to be against him, and he won’t be hesitant to tell you to shut up. He can be very demanding at times, and rather irritable when people aren’t able to understand or do what ever he wants them to. Christopher is particularly patronizing towards those he feels aren’t intelligent enough. He’s horribly blunt about things, especially when it comes to people he dislikes. This doesn’t mean that he’s honest most of the time as he’s had a fair share of occasions where he would lie to get out of trouble, especially when he’s caught doing something wrong.
At times he takes advantage of the fact that some younger students are actually scared of him, he likes to scare them off even more by saying cryptic things. Once in a while he’d randomly smile at them evilly when they pass him in the corridors and have a good laugh afterwards over it. He takes pleasure in teasing his peers as well - sometimes a little too much.
Because of his somewhat lonely childhood, Christopher, doesn’t mind being by himself. He has a few close friends - though there are occasions when he will put an invisible wall between him and them. He is sociable but only to an extent. Christopher will only be civil to those who behave the same way towards him, and it takes a while for people to fully gain his trust. He may not be able to show it well, but he’s very loyal towards his friends, and when they get into trouble, he’s willing to side with them and defend them (but he’ll probably be complaining about how they shouldn’t even be stuck in a problem in the first place).
Christopher finds it difficult to say no when it comes to helping people who he feels truly needs his help, especially the younger students. Despite his little hobby of pretending to be evil around them, he actually doesn’t mind some of them that much. They remind him of himself when he first came to Hogwarts, confused and not knowing how to react to things. He has no qualms about helping his peers or younger students when it comes to studying and coping with the school by showing them around and offering tips on how not to get lost. Christopher actually spends more time with younger students than people around his age, and no, despite what other people may think he’s not out to corrupt their ickle minds! He just prefers their company when they’re not giving him strange looks and there are actually a few of them who have gotten used to his cryptic jokes. This, perhaps, makes people see him as more of an approachable person than he usually lets on.
He was never heavily influenced by purist ideas, but he has heard his aunt and mother complain about Muggles plenty of times. However, he looks down on Muggles and Muggle-borns, agreeing that wizards with better lineage are better than Muggles. He still suffers inner conflicts when it comes to the issue of his father. There are moments when he feels that given the situation at the time, he can understand why Quentin decided to join the Death Eaters, but it annoyed him that his father would risk his own family.
Christopher often tries to find things that can entertain him whenever he’s bored, and of those things is reading. He is an avid reader, but he’s definitely not a fan of Muggle literature, having read some and compared it to wizard literature. A peculiar thing about Christopher is that he hates the outdoors. He complains a lot about the weather, claiming that it didn’t suit him. Christopher prefers staying inside the school and he rarely ever goes out, even for Hogsmeade trips. He’s not too fond of Quidditch but he has watched a match or two and was entertained by the game. That was as far as his interest would go.
Christopher isn’t the smartest in his Year, but he takes his studies seriously, and has developed an interest in Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. Christopher is the sort of person who sets himself into doing something, he makes sure he does it well. He is determined do well, though he’s not sure what sort of work he’s sees himself involving into and he is definitely ruling out any chance of working outside of an office.
Now that he’s Head Boy, you can be sure that he’s going to end up misusing his powers now and then. He was never a Prefect before, so he’s not too familiar with what he’s not supposed to do. There’s no doubt he’s going to give out detentions to people he doesn’t like and take off points for even the minor little mistakes if he’s in a bad mood. However, there’s likelihood that Christopher come to terms with the fact that he has to be responsible, but that’s not going to happen too soon.
family:
He is the youngest child of Marianne Parkinson and Quentin Yaxley (former Death Eater). Other significant family members include his sister, Christine Yaxley, who is married to a half-blood wizard, Edward Thompson, and his maternal aunt Joanne Parkinson. He does not have a close relationship with his mother, only speaking to her when she would actually come out of her room on one of her better days, and has never met his father before. He is, however, very close to his sister Christine, who comes to visit him and their mother over the holidays. His Aunt Joanna also comes over frequently to check up on his mum, but he considers her a bothersome woman who has nothing else to do but to nose herself into other people’s business.
detailed history:
The Yaxleys used to be a very prominent pureblood family within the Ministry of Magic circle. They’ve had family members holding important posts within various departments, even in the prestigious Wizengamot court. Most members of the family were blood purists who supported Voldemort’s campaign. It came as no surprise within the family that the eldest son of the family, Quentin Yaxley, decided to join Voldemort right after he finished school. He was reckless, and passionate of his beliefs that Muggles should be exterminated and this had led him to join the Dark Lord near the days when support for his campaign was dwindling. Quentin’s family was certainly wary of his decision and those who worked for the Ministry did not want their jobs to be at threat, so they were mostly discreet about Quentin’s allegiance to Voldemort. When the war was over and Voldemort lost, Quentin had been put on trial for being a Death Eater. The Yaxleys were known to be clannish, and had agreed unanimously to help Quentin out. Quentin claimed that he had been under the Imperius Curse, and his relatives who were in the Wizengamot court managed to convince the members of the court that he was innocent. Their efforts paid off, and Quentin was released with a clean slate.
Feeling indebted to his family, he had decided to stay low-key regarding his opinions on heritage. He joined the Ministry of Magic and worked under the Department of International Magical Co-operation. After gaining financial security, his family decided that it was time for him to settle down and produce an heir. They proceeded to arrange his marriage to a young woman from a respectable pureblood family, Marianne Parkinson. The couple were married in 1986, and enjoyed a peaceful life together with their daughter, Christine (born in 1988). By that time, he was beginning to get used to the life that he led, even though he remained firm with his beliefs. When rumours about the Dark Lord’s return surfaced within his ‘old connections’, he began to feel torn between his duty as a father and a Death Eater. He was not sure what he was supposed to do until Lord Voldemort was finally revived. He had told himself that he was supporting Voldemort for the sake of his wife and daughter’s safety, but in reality, he was actually afraid of losing his own life.
He gained support from his family, including his wife. They were displeased with how the Ministry of Magic was being run and disgusted with how Purebloods were being dismissed, feeling that their contributions were wasted away. Quentin became a spy for Voldemort at the Ministry and gave him necessary information. When the war ‘officially’ started and the Ministry was taken over by Voldemort and his Death Eaters, he was in charge of the Muggle-born Registration Commission along with Dolores Umbridge. He was also involved in the battle at Hogwarts, and was taken down by two younger wizards. It was apparent that there was no way Quentin could escape Azkaban this time, but his family, demanding favours returned to them after all the hard work they had done for the Ministry, managed to get his stay at Azkaban reduced to six years, claiming that he was, again, under the Imperius Curse, and that he was suffering from the after effects of the previous Imperius Curse. They had also forced him to give out some names of the Death Eaters who were involved in the second war.
Quentin was released in 2004, reuniting with his wife and daughter. However, obvious evidence had been popping up pointing out that he was never under an Imperius Curse in during the second war. The Wizengamot members who were associated with his trial had admitted to accept bribes by the Yaxley family and two of his family members confessed to have done the deed. He was put into Azkaban barely three months after his freedom.
On May 1st 2005, Christopher Yaxley was born. The Yaxleys were rather indifferent to his birth, still sore over the problems they had faced during the war. Christopher, Christine and their mother were told to stay in the countryside of Northumberland while they ‘cleared up’ the mess Quentin and other relatives had caused to bring down the family name. Christopher led a quiet childhood. His mother never seemed to care about him that much - she would often mope over his father, and wasted away her life by shutting herself in her room most of the time. His only company was his sister, who left the family when she married a half-blood wizard. Fortunately, Christopher’s sister would come to visit and that had cheered him up. He rarely met his father’s family, except during occasions when they would come unexpectedly to visit his mother, and even then they had never acknowledged him. Christopher, his mother and his sister receives monthly allowances from both sides of the family, though they hardly spend the money on anything except for necessary items.
When he started attending Hogwarts, he was confused as to why no one wanted to talk to him. He was a quiet student, yes, but the students’ hostile attitudes confused him. Living in Northumberland with a mother who barely talked to him, he was only informed that his father ‘died’ from a mysterious disease. Whenever the subject of his father came up, his mother and sister never spoke ill of him. He found out the truth when he was cornered by some older students who started harassing him about his father being a Death Eater. Christopher went home during the holidays demanding an explanation from his older sister, and when the truth was finally revealed, he found himself confused and angry. It was his father’s fault in the first place for being involved in the Death Eater, yet Christopher wasn’t sure whether it was appropriate to hate your own father. Conflicted by these feelings, he returned to Hogwarts and once more became the subject of insult and ridicule. Christopher realised that he could not defend his father, but he could defend himself. That was when his personality changed. He knew that it was no use to keep quiet and let everyone walk all over him, so he started walking over everyone else first before they could bring him down.
His older sister is a big influence in his life. They were always together when he was younger, and even though she could be quite a pain by forcing him to help her with house chores and getting him out of the house by asking him to buy groceries, she was the person who he could depend on, and he knew that she also depended on him as well. She was more sensitive than he was and would come back home from Hogwarts every holiday to cry about how awful her classmates were. He would always try to cheer her up by talking to her about his days at home and their aunt’s comical reactions to Muggles.
Throughout his years at Hogwarts, Christopher has always managed to keep himself out of trouble. There was an occasion in his Second Year when he lost his temper on some of the older students for insulting his family - but Christopher never made a move to physically or magically injure the students, knowing that it wouldn’t really help him anyway. He spent a lot of time focusing on his studies and was never involved in major activities such as Quidditch nor was he a Prefect.
A significant childhood memory:
---------------------------------------------------
When he was seven years old, his mother came out of her room on one of her better days and spent time with him talking about how awful Muggles were. He had been amused by his mother’s stories about Muggles, and this was one of those very few times when he had actually managed to have a ‘proper’ conversation with her.
