I'm off to bed soon, and I'll post more detailed stuff later, but I had an awesome 3-day weekend.
On Friday I took the day off and Martha and I went to climb Mt. Moosilauke in western New Hampshire (4,802 feet). On Friday night a group of us went dancing at Bubba's Sulky Lounge for 80's night, and I went to bed very, very late (nearly 3am).
Yesterday I had a dinner party as a send-off of sorts for my friend Katy, a party which also coincided with Julia Child's birthday. As Katy has been packing, she's giving away some things she doesn't want to move with her, and she's letting me "borrow" a Julia Child cookbook, so doing the menu entirely from that seemed fitting.
I made coquille st-jacques Parisienne, Bouillabaisse, and Chocolate Souffle. It all went over well, though making it came a the expense of quite a lot of stress given that my power went out for an hour and a half, just as I was a half-hour into making the broth, which require making fish stock from scratch and a 3-hour simmer. Before I even got started I was called into work for a bit, so as a result we ate somewhat late. Food was great though!
Today, in spite of temps around 90 and lots of humidity, Dan, Lisa and I went to climb the Wildcats in NH. 5 peaks, 8.7 miles, and an unusually strenuous 3,150 feet of elevation gain. Given the heat and the fact that it was Dan's first real hike, ever, the pace was slower than normal, but that was fine with me since I was sweating so much! Thankfully I packed my portable water filter, and were able to refill. I drank an entire gallon of water on the trail today.
After the hike we all took a dip in a swimming hole near the parking lot, which was amazingly refreshing...
The net result of these 2 hikes of 3 official 4,000 foot summits is that I'm now past the halfway point on my list of New England 4,000 footers. I've completed 34/67.
Details and pictures in a day or two...
