Hiking on New Year' Day? Not so much...

Well, I'd been planning to go hiking on New Year's Day, as it's an otherwise idle day off in the middle of the week, and tried rather hard to recruit interested parties.

I finally succeeded, and John Aprea and I were discussing where to go, leaning towards something near Sugarloaf or perhaps Grafton Notch.

"What's the forecast in the mountains?"

So I check. This just has to be read to be believed.

For Grafton Notch:

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -16. Wind chill values as low as -44. Very windy, with a northwest wind between 30 and 40 mph, with gusts as high as 65 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

New Year's Day: Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near -1. Wind chill values as low as -49. Very windy, with a northwest wind between 40 and 44 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph.

Ouch! Forget that idea.

So instead, I'm going out with some friends to The Big Easy to see The Awesome, the fun 80's cover band I keep talking about. Should be a blast as usual. Then tomorrow a bunch of us are going out to brunch at the Miss Portland Diner. I will probably hit the gym at some point, and then spend the day doing other productive tasks, like vaccuming and ripping CDs, as I just got an iPod.

I may also try my hand at Osso Buco, as I've wanted to make it for awhile, but it takes time... Anyone want to come over and help me eat it?
