Anniversary
Today marks the 7th anniversary of my moving to Portland. Seven years. October 22nd, 2001.
In some ways, it doesn't even seem possible that I've been here for 7 years, because I'm still at the age where 7 years sounds like kind of a long time. Nearly a quarter of my life! But at the same time, the memory of my moving here doesn't seem very distant. It screws with your brain, the two ideas seem to form a contradiction. It happens more and more the older I get. "That wasn't that long ago! Wait, that was 10 years ago, what the....?!?!" I won't even go into the increasingly frequent forays into "that happened 20 or 25 years ago..and I remember it!" I can't even say that still without getting freaked out.
And at the same time, other events that actually took place before moving down here seem more recent. Isn't it odd how your memory works like that?
