I broadcasted UB soccer today.
It actually went quite well, though I now have a new found respect for people who call games. We all rip on john madden for pointing out the obvious every 2 seconds, but really thats the majority of commentating on games is. And its a lot more difficult than it looks and sounds. I did ok, but I know i could have done a lot better. Explaining things eloquently and one the fly is probably the hardest part, especially when you've the added pressure of trying to keep up with the action. Next time it'll probably start off a lot better, because we really started to build some chemistry in the booth in the second half. Oct. 4th is the next one i guess. listen to it.
Also, NCAA soccer rules are really messed up. the clock can stop, they don't have a running clock (its two 45-minute halves but each counts down from 45, not up to 90), and you can make crazy subs (you can put subbed players back into the game). It was really odd.
Tonight, we tried to meet people at kareoke, but no one showed up. Then we walked around the city, but it was really creepy because a lot of people were out tonight, and there was an unusually large number of homeless and crazy people roaming the streets. I'm glad I didnt get mugged, because i definately had that uneasy feeling walking around tonight. Usually Buffalo is deserted at night, so when ever there's a lot of people out, its kind of disconcerting to begin with, but then there's a lot of creepy people and panhandlers too. Weird.
tomorrow its either go to the sabres or watch chelsea vs. Liverpool. we'll see which one i choose.
cheers.
