Today was the day. I looked up to the sky, watching as the white snow fell down. I remembered, one year ago today, you left me, pierced my heart, leaving me breathless.
You left me alone to love, only loving you. Countless nights, I cried, sobbing, calling your name. I wish you would come back, letting me caress your smooth cheek, letting me kiss those soft, plump lips.
“Taemin-ah.”
I whisper your name, welcoming the pain in my chest.
They say that time is the best medicine, that new love can erase old love. Every time your name is mentioned, I feel a pang in my chest. People say I need to move on to love someone else, but your image overflows my mind, making me love only you.
I walked down this familiar street, the one I always took to come to your small apartment.
I remember you calling me, “Minho hyung!” with your sweet voice that sent tingles throughout my body.
I remember the horrible sight of you lying on the street, blood pooling around you.
As an ambulance arrived, I held your hand in mine, never letting go.
That was when I realized I couldn’t live without you, but it was too late.
Stopping in front of the apartment, closing my eyes, I flashed back to that day.
That day, one year ago, you smiled. You looked only at me, as your dry lips whispered in my ear, “I love you, Minho hyung.” You tried to lift yourself up to meet my lips for the last time, but before they could touch, you fell back onto your pillow, mouthing incoherent words. You were smiling, but only I could see the sadness in your eyes. The hand I was holding went limp.
I opened my eyes to see a pair staring back at me, expectant.
“Where is the chicken I ordered?” The male asked me, looking behind me and stepping back to find no chicken. He accidentally tripped on a crack on the sidewalk, sending him flying back onto the ground. Landing with an audible thump on his butt, he looked up sheepishly, grinning until his eyes disappeared.
I bent down, helping him up as he introduced himself. I thought it was my imagination when his cheeks flushed as I looked him in the eyes.
“I’m Lee Jinki, but you can call me Onew. What are you doing here?”
Looking at him, I told him I was here because of an important anniversary, feeling another pang in my chest. Onew nodded confusion clear on his face. Unconsciously, the corners of my mouth lifted up, a warm feeling filled my chest, replacing the pain. The pain was gone, leaving a warm, fuzzy feeling. I only felt this way when I was with Taemin, I recalled, happy the pain was gone.
“I’m Minho.” I said, smiling. I stood there smiling like an idiot because the older boy had an innocent aura surrounding him, making me feel protective of him. Just like when I was around Taemin.

End of Minho’s POV
A strong gust of wind blew past the two boys. It wasn’t something cold, it was filled with warmth. Minho felt something brush his lips, sending him into a daze.
He could see Taemin, smiling as he said, “My last gift to you. I love you.” Before Minho could react, there was a flash of light and Taemin was gone.
“Wa-“ Minho shouted and reached toward the spot Taemin was standing.
Onew, having witnessed the whole scene realized finally what Minho was talking about. Calmly, he slung his arm around the wide eyed boy, guiding him into his apartment. “Let’s wait for the chicken together.”
Minho looked down at the older boy, awkwardly hanging his arm around Minho’s neck. He smiled as he replayed the last words Taemin had said before he died.
“Forget about me, find another person to love.”
Minho chuckled, thinking to himself, I will never forget you, Lee Taemin, but thank you for letting me love again.
