Dear Journal:
I realize it seems as though I have forgotten your existence, but I haven't. Really, to be honest, I've been hiding for the last few years. Not from anyone in particular, but the world wide web in general.
It's way past time for me to return to the land of the living, breathing, socializing world. Today is day one, and what a day it's been! I got a brand spankin' new Microsoft Surface 3 tablet today. I barely touch my (ancient) Macbook anymore, and I've gotten used to the convenience of my hubby's Samsung Galaxy tablet, but without a keyboard, my willingness to type much of anything was pretty low. This includes journal entries, email, and FB. I got the navy blue keyboard to go with my new tablet/PC. Yeah, it's both. Strange to be back in Windows, but considering I was still using XP, this is completely different anyway. I'm not quite sure how to use most of the functionality yet, but the keyboard detaches quite easily, and when attached (and closed) it's a nice cover. I don't have a pen yet, because Best Buy didn't have any. Their system said they had 2, but their people couldn't find them. They finally assumed they'd grown legs and walked out of the store. I've got to get the hang of using the trackpad or the touch screen. Right now navigating my screen is pretty awkward. This has a USB port, so I can attach my trackball mouse and my camera. We recently upgraded our laser printer and now have wireless printing, which is totally wicked awesome.
I plan to use this for:
- journaling (is that a word?)
- photo processing / sharing (I've been using Picassa, I'm curious how the MS photo software is)
- Graphics, mainly for crafting (t-shirt transfers and such) and plan to install Gimp (which I have never used, but my Macbook is running the version of Photoshop I bought when I graduated from college eons ago
- oh yeah, email correspondence
- need to set up Calibre for ebook management on my Nook
- travel - it's so small and light!
- probably a few things I'm forgetting at the moment
Okay, that's enough for now. Time to figure out / download some personalized content for this thing. They didn't even provide the basic user icons, like the butterfly, cat, etc., nor are there any wallpaper choices. I find that odd, but maybe it's there I and I just couldn't find it. Shrug
