Well, RIT dye works better than I thought it did. Unfortunately. I need to go get a bottle of tan or khaki, which is the color I was hoping to get out of cocoa brown not soaked for as long as it says. It says 30-60 minutes on the stove. I tried 20 seconds, and my test fabric came out brown. Not tan. So now I have a gallon of brown dye bath that I have no use for... On the bright side, dying isn't nearly as daunting as I was making it out to be.
I also worked on making stencils today. Print design on paper - tape to sheet of thin plastic - carve out stencil. Unfortunately, carving through plastic is hard on my finger, so I didn't quite get the first one finished. Even after I put a glove on. It seems to be working well, though, and it'll be a HUGE help.
So, since I'm not sure what to do next, I figured I'd post some of those crafty photos I keep promising. I guess I'll start with the gifts I made Lori for her baby shower in October.
Imperial Mama tote bag. The ships are applique, cut from Star Wars fabric. The cog is a patch, and the letters were stenciled on in fabric paint using freezer paper.
Baby bibs! These two are paint, stencils made from freezer paper.
Boba Fett's symbol is paint, STAR WARS is a fabric applique
All wrapped up and ready to travel.
There are a few photos from the shower
in the web gallery, and larger versions of all of the above photos.
Whew, that took a long time! (Well, including making the new icon... ;)
EDIT: Whoops, the link is now fixed. Sorry!
