Happy New Year

I passed the new year watching a marathon of Pawn Star and American Pickers. Really. I am fascinated by those shows, because I am amazed at what people keep in their barns and what people bring in to the pawn shop. I did switch the channel just in time to see the Times Square ball drop.

I don't really have any resolutions this year, but a lot of hopes. I hope to find a new job (I'm still hopeful I can regain the job I almost had locked up). I hope to finish at least one new book. I hope to find an agent. I hope we remain healthy and happy and if not wealthy then comfortable. I hate having that panic over money, and I'm tired of worrying. Hubby has gotten his second job at the fire company back. He likes the job but it was taking time away from the family, but we really need the money, so back he goes.

2010 wasn't a bad year, necessarily. It had good parts and bad parts. Two semesters of grad school are done, and I did well at that. I finished a new book and published another, just under the wire for last year. I went to my first mentoring workshop and my first writing conference and met a whole bunch of great writer/agent/editor people! I did a reading at the Library of Congress. Yes, it definitely had its good points.

Work isn't bad, but I need more work and more money. The school budget crisis made me a little upset over what's happening in boy's school, though it's still a great school. I almost had a new job - and I still could, but it's just not a sure thing. I was upset, then angry over it, but in the end it's just a minor bump instead of a sinkhole.  I need to find a writing groove again, and I'm going to work on that today. So many distractions!

I guess I'm glad for a new year, because even though it really is an arbitrary border, created by human beings (a thought which gave me an idea for a book this morning), it does feel like a clean slate. Time to go, 2010, let's see what your younger brother has in store.

Happy New Year!
