Strange things that make me happy

The Fall semester starts in 29 days. While I have enjoyed my summer off, I kind of wish I had taken summer courses. I find myself rattling around with downtime, but quickly fill it. SCSU does their summers in two mini-semesters instead of one full semester, which would have meant I would have had to cram twelve week courses into six weeks. The idea did not appeal. But I think next year I'll just suck it up and do it, because that way I'll be able to graduate in the Spring of '12, like normal people, instead of in the summer or winter.

Anyway, I bought the textbooks for the one course where the prof has told the bookstore what they are. This is my Cataloging course. I spent $160 on books that tell me how to catalog books (and didn't even buy the one about Dewey Decimal system, which was not required).

This makes me wildly happy, which just means I am a weird person. Part of why I love librarianship, other than BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS, and the opportunity to help people find information (which is just AWESOME!!!) is the order of it all. To me there is nothing better than perfectly organized shelves of books, exactly where they should be. Most people hate shelving books, but I enjoy it (as long as I'm not rushed through it), as it has a calming effect on me. I LIKE to shelf read. I know I am strange.

If I were not going to become a school librarian, the other job I'd love to have is an Archivist. I often thought I'd like to be an archaeologist, but I hate the heat. I love discovery and ancient things, and of course order. I'd love to work in a museum. Maybe once I'm done Grad School I will take some archival classes.

My other course next sememster will be Reference materials. Not my favorite subject, but good anyway.

grad school, library school, librarians
