PINK computer, the 'strike' , and cinnamon rolls

Yes, dear friends, the PINK computer has arrived, in all its PINK glory. The top is very, very PINK and has a sort of rubbery feel to it. It arrived Thursday afternoon, and I spent the rest of Thursday setting it up. Hooray for pre-loaded software! My printer network linked right up, my wireless card is super strong - it found FIVE local networks, not just the one in my house - and I was online in about two minutes after firing it up.

The wallpaper they had set is also PINK. I'm not changing it - I love it. It says 'inspiron' in the middle, which is a blatant ad for the computer, but I don't care - it's PINK and pretty.

And, let me tell you, if you don't already have a portable hard drive, GET ONE NOW. I plugged that sucker in and hit 'transfer to PC' and zip! All my music files, projects, documents, and pictures were on the new machine, just like that. I have some temp file deleting to do, but overall it was relatively painless and SO EASY. It's awesome. I'm still getting used to Word 2007, and some of the keys on this machine are different than the old one, so there's a bit of an adjustment period, but overall I'm happy. I like the scrolly thing on the mouse pad.

And I have a webcam. It came with the computer, and I didn't really need it, but it was fun to play with. Ry and I took silly pictures of ourselves, and we made some short videos to send to relatives that are far away. Now I can also do video conference author visits, if someone wants one :).

And it's PINK.

The LJ strike happened yesterday. I didn't post, but I did read. Overall I don't know how much effect it had. I have a free account, mainly because I'm cash poor, not because I don't WANT to have a paid account. I suppose that, since I use this as a promo tool, I could pay for an account and write it off, but I need to budget. Maybe once I'm either a rich and famous author, or a not so rich but working teacher, I'll do it.

I'm going to attempt to make cinnamon rolls today. Hubby gave me a beautiful stand mixer for Christmas, and I haven't had much chance to use it. It's got a dough hook, so I'm going to try some cinnamon rolls. The trick is to get the water JUST the right temperature so it's warm enough to activate the yeast but not hot enough to kill it

Don't worry, I also bought a can of rolls, in case I crash and burn.

I also managed to get the taxes done last night. I was able to write off some writing expenses, since I had writing income last year. This year I'm keeping much better records, and writing off every last thing I can - mileage to events, booth fees, PINK computer, everything.

I'm actually done EVERYTHING I had to do. So what do I do now? Actually enjoy the last couple days of Spring Break. I might write today. Or watch movies, or read. Next week, back to the grind. There are five weeks left in this semester, and four papers. Ack.
