Open house scheduled concerning new youth resource centre in Fort McMurray
(Fort McMurray, AB - November 24, 2005) On Saturday, December 3, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Justin Slade Youth Foundation will host a public open house regarding the proposed location for a new youth resource centre and coffee house. The open house will be held in the Haxton Centre.
The proposed location for a new youth resource centre and coffee house is the Haxton Centre at Borealis Park.
The proposed modification may have an impact on current operations. “We encourage residents to attend this open house to share ideas and concerns, ask questions and provide feedback about the issues related to the location,” says Stephen Clarke, manager of community services.
Youth in the community have requested more resources and brought this type of youth resource centre to the attention of Regional Council. Other survey’s which address the need include those completed by the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Youth (M.A.C.O.Y.) and the Community Plan on Homelessness.
“The Dug Out Coffee House and Youth Centre will work to remove barriers by partnering and collaborating with numerous community agencies and resources,” says Clarke. “It will cater to all youth and young adults in an effort to create an environment that encourages young people to positively contribute to our community.”
If you are unable to attend the open house, information will be displayed at the Haxton Centre 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Monday, December 5 until Thursday, December 9.

I know it sounds like another goverment attempt to get close to the youth of Fort McMurray, but please come.
The Justin Slade Foundation took off after I lost my cousin, Justin. He was an all around good guy:
Justin William Joseph Slade
1983 - 2004
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Justin on Friday, November 5th, 2004. He leaves to mourn his mother Carolyn, father Keith and sisters Wendy and Tonya. His grandparents Gladys and Murdock Barter as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Justin is predeceased by his grandparents William and Isobel Slade.
Justin was born in Fort McMurray on March 21st, 1983. He was one of those amazing people that lived life to the fullest. Over the course of his 21 years, Justin filled his life with things he loved, playing hockey, racing his quad, working as an Ironworker at the Suncor site as well as spending time with his abundant number of friends and showing his love for his family.
Justin will be sadly missed but always
remembered by his family and a large circle of friends. This tragic loss of such a vibrant and amazing young man brings the realization to all of us to live life as Justin did, really live every moment of your life and not to take anything or anyone for granted.
