Time keeps on slippin...

I’m going to admit it right here and now- I miss mom. Of course I have missed her and everyone else the whole time I’ve been in Greece, but after talking to her on the phone tonight I all of the sudden appreciate her just how I did when I was 3 years old and she would pick me up off the ground and hang onto me. Man, those were the days, weren’t they?

Last week went by in a blur. Let’s see, on Thursday I visted Pnyx, a place where democracy accidentally began, no joke. I also went up to Areopagus, which is much safer during the day than it is at night come to find out, but old people used to kick it there when solving judicial matters. The last stop for the day was the Agora, the famous market place/political haven which has so much to see, including the prison cell where Socrates died! I tried to get a picture of it, but I was at a horrible angle and I didn’t have enough time to stop elsewhere to get it better.

Friday. That was quite the day. Early in the morning our class took a ferry to the island of Aegina and we started off touring the ruins of Kolona. It’s named this after the lone column that exists there today at the Temple of Apollon, and as important as this column is everyone couldn’t help but notice that it resembles a large fallace (Hindu art anyone?) It was a neat site though, you could see how different cultures all contributed to its construction (and destruction) over time. After that we went to the Temple of Aphaia, which is gorgeous even though a lot of it is missing.

Instead of returning to Athens right away, three others and I decided to stick around the area for a few hours more to tour everything else we wanted to see. We didn’t end up leaving until 8 PM, and the amount of food we consumed the whole day is a little embarrassing when I think about it. I enjoyed myself though; I would love to return to Aegina someday.

The rest of the weekend was devoted to studying. I did enjoy the company of myself at a taverna in the square I live by, but I realize that going to place like those is more of a social thing and not really a place to go study (this is according to culture, not ability, because I still did it.) It’s nice to get away from the crowds every once in a while though.

Oops, I forgot that I went to a place called An Live Club Saturday night with JT and Owen. It was an interesting experience for sure, except no one moved around at all. The atmosphere was great though, and oddly enough the smoke didn’t bother me at all. Am I used to being around it again? Hmmm…

DUMB! The power went out in my room a while ago and who knows when we’ll get it back. So much for studying. Agh, then there’s using the restroom… roaches…*cries*

Oh yeah, photologos:

If you ignore all the metal, it's not too horrible:

The views from the Agora are so much fun! This is the Temple to Haphaestos:

That there column:

Some dogs just have no respect for ancient ruins:

The Romans took over! And they placed this brick in the wall:
