Well, I certainly can't pick just one, and I'm sure I'll forget some of my all-time favorites, but here are a few characters I find quite delightful:

Atlas Shrugged page count: 791 / 1168 = 68% done! I must and shall finish this by tomorrow night!

- Ariadne Oliver, the authoress/detective created by Agatha Christie and featured in such novels as Cards on the Table and Hallowe'en Party. She's such a bold and confident individual, and she's full of crazy little quirks.
- Sir Percy Blakeney, the consummate fop from Baroness Orczy's The Scarlet Pimpernel. Sink me!
- Miss Havisham, as re-imagined by Jasper Fforde in Lost in a Good Book. The woman has a need...a need for speed!
- Jane Fairfax, from Jane Austen's Emma. I find her intriguing and mysterious; even though a lot of her backstory (as well as her eventual fate) is revealed in the novel, there's a lot that remains unresolved. For example, was there anything going on between her and Mr. Dixon? What was her life with the Campbells like? I enjoy speculating about characters' lives when they're "off-page," and Austen's characters seem so real that it's easy to imagine them having their own private lives.
- Mr. Darcy, from Pride and Prejudice. That is one sexy fictional man. :)
- Freddy Standen, from Georgette Heyer's Cotillion. I love that he's not your typical romantic hero, but he's still so lovable!
