The flesh is weak

Today I bought more books! I got a Borders gift card for my birthday, so naturally I had to rush out and spend it as soon as possible. I bought:

Tana French, In the Woods: I've heard a lot of good things about this mystery, so I finally decided to buy it. It's set in contemporary Ireland, which interests me, and the plot looks intriguing too. Plus, it was on the "buy one, get one 50% off" table, so how could I resist? :)

Laura Kinsale, Uncertain Magic: Ever since I read and liked Flowers from the Storm, I've been wanting to read more Kinsale. This one jumped out at me because it's a trade paperback selling for $9.99. The cover is kind of ridiculous, but for some reason I like it anyway. Plus, I'm definitely in the mood to read some light romance!

Tracy Winn, Miss Somebody Somebody: I was looking for a second book for the "buy one, get one 50% off" thing, and this one caught my eye. It's one of those novels that follow several characters in a small town through multiple generations, which is not normally my style -- but in this case, the characters actually look interesting, and the first couple paragraphs seemed good, so I went for it.

Then, as if that weren't enough, I started browsing Amazon.com and couldn't resist purchasing these books as well!

Ann Granger, The Companion (also published as A Rare Interest in Corpses): Another mystery set in the Victorian era, this time featuring a female protagonist who works as a ladies' companion. I saw a good review of this online, and Amazon is selling used copies for $3.99, which was the deciding factor for me!

Juliet Marillier, Cybele's Secret: Once I opened the Pandora's box of ordering from Amazon, I had to get this sequel to Wildwood Dancing.

Gail Carriger, Blameless: The third Parasol Protectorate novel, after Soulless and Changeless. Now I can finally read Changeless! :)

And now, the 30-day book meme continues with...

Day 06 - Favorite book of your favorite series OR your favorite book of all time

Hmm, first I have to come up with a favorite series, don't I? I've been enjoying Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation series, even though I realize it's just fluffy nonsense with historical trappings; my favorite book from that series is probably The Masque of the Black Tulip, with The Seduction of the Crimson Rose running a very close second.

I also really like Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, of which my favorite book is Lost in a Good Book, where Fforde first introduces us to the wonders of JurisFiction (and Miss Havisham!). The Well of Lost Plots and Something Rotten are also marvelous, though!

As for the "favorite book of all time" question, I trust that's already been answered to everyone's satisfaction. :)
