Day 02 - A book or series you wish more people were reading and talking about
Naomi Novik should be much more famous than she currently is for her Temeraire series, beginning with His Majesty's Dragon. There are six books so far, and I believe there will be three more for a total of nine. This series has such a creative premise: it's the Napoleonic Wars with dragons! I've only read the first three books so far, but they've all been very entertaining, and I can't wait to see what happens with the rest of the series!
I also have to give a shout-out to Charles Finch's Charles Lenox series, beginning with A Beautiful Blue Death. It's not the best-written series in the world, but the characters (especially Lenox) and setting are very well drawn. Victorian England + mysteries = love.
Day 03 - The best book you've read in the last 12 months:
This is a hard question, because I've read several excellent books in the past year, but the standout favorite for me is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It's so sweet and charming -- a lovely comfort read, but with genuine emotional depth (wow, I originally typed "death"...that is definitely not what I meant!). I also loved the epistolary style and the discussions of various books and authors.
