In the course of my internet wanderings the other day, I came across an interesting website called
Writing World. It has a ton of articles on each major literary genre with advice on how to write well in that genre. Naturally, I was most interested in the romance section, because I was curious to see what kind of advice would be given for a genre that contains a lot of famously bad writing. I was actually quite impressed with most of the articles, which point out the kinds of things that can really ruin a romance novel, like blatant historical inaccuracies and silly euphemisms during the love scenes ("manroot," anyone?). My favorite article was probably the one on
romance-novel cliches: get the 411 on Evil Relatives, Amnesia Plots, and the Duke of Slut!
