This is "Don't Start a Band" by Reel Big Fish. I saw them in college -- can't remember the year, but probably '05 or '06 -- with two of my fellow trombonists in the pep band, Elyse and toddpage. Westbound Train, Suburban Legends, and Streetlight Manifesto also performed, and the show was altogether fantastic. "Don't Start a Band" is one of my favorite RBF songs, because I think it encapsulates their schtick so well, namely: being in a band sucks, the fame it brings is fleeting, etc. etc. If you've ever wanted to start a rock band, listen first to this cautionary tale!
