this past saturday me and brian went to the "reason rally" a rally in DC for atheists. it was interesting for sure. the weather was awful, the people watching was great, and bad religion performed at the end! it was awesome to see such a variety of people there, kids to seniors and people (and families!) of all different races/ethnicity. it was nice to be around so many other atheists and i'm really glad i went and showed support.
our journey began in a magical place called korea, excuse me i mean annandale.
we stopped by to chill with some friends before the rally ♥
we passed one of my dream homes on the way to the metro...
looks like it's going to be a beautiful day for a rally!
i peed in the metro parking garage because i am a classy lady
when we got to the rally it was just drizzling, we listened to some of the speakers. the rally wasn't about religion bashing. it was about showing support of the separation of church and state and making it known that atheists have values, just not of the religious kind.
i'm surprised there weren't more jokes about god making the weather shitty
we should have brought chairs, my legs were killing me by the end of the day! at one point it started pouring so we hid under a tent (so many people were in the tent i'm not even sure what it was for!)
who let brian on stage?!?
represent!
the religious people were the best. shouting about how we were going to hell and how they have proof god exisits.
well i'm going to hell, and it sounds like i'll have a great time!
i'll trust him once he turns some water into wine for me...
i refuse to argue about religion so i would just go stand next to the picketers and listen to the drama unfold! hah!
i was really looking forward to the westboro baptist church being there (they are insane, their website is "godhatesfags.com") but they apparently picketed a couple blocks away where no one could see them
after a couple hours of being cold we decided to walk over the national gallery to visit and get something to eat (and raid the gift shop!)
cascade fountain!
i got some books to use for work ♥ some haring and basquiat postcards and a keith haring flip book!
AND A VAN GOGH/STARRY NIGHT UMBRELLA! i could have bought a cheap umbrella off the street but goddamnit i wanted an art umbrella! ♥ i'm the coolest art teacher in town :D
the national gallery has two parts a west wing and an east wing, the west wing has all the classic older stuff and the east wing is more modern. the two buildings are connecting via this really cool moving walkway.
one of my favorite things in the east building is the alexander calder mobile ♥ it's so giant!
jean dubuffet, this artist has an interesting body of work!
like this room he designed in paris! i like his sculptures too :)
you have to love picasso! when i was a kid i thought picasso lived wayyyyyy back in history, but he died in 1973, that's only ten years before i was born!
i've always been a fan of artists whose work you can spot immediately, like roy lichtenstein ♥ back in my early college years i painted a toilet seat (poking fun at duchamp's work!) with a lichtenstein for a project :D i won an award and cash for it!
modigliani is one of those artists that is talked about in elementary school art but (like most artists) is really inappropriate for kids. "well kids this man drank lots of alcohol and did lots of drugs and made some art! when he died a horrible death from an incurable disease his wife killed herself and their unborn baby by throwing herself out of a window!"
mel bochner's work. i wasn't the biggest fan of this work (there was a whole room dedicated to his planning/sketches as well) but i got yelled at for taking the picture so i had to share- hah!
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ♥
walking back to the rally we found a shoe and it made me think of
adam_0oo
back to the rally!
toward the end of the rally the speakers started to get a little more racy (and a lot more funny!)
holy jesus on a dinosaur!
i'm a little mad we didn't talk to the guy in the camo pants...
dog with two different colored eyes! so cute!!
i'm 100% sure i used to see this guy out at the goth club
the rally ended with bad religion performing! i used to be a big fan back in high school so i was pretty excited. we didn't stay for the whole set though because we were so cold and uncomfortable and we wanted to beat the rush back to the metro!
