Good reviews! I actually just finished reading the Tomorrow series by John Marsden last year!
I really can't figure this book out... it was fascinating and boring at the same time, and I'm not even sure how that works!
That's happened to me sometimes, and I think it's because the author might have interesting concepts to convey--but writing or plot itself lags in some places, growing dull.
I think you might be right about the boring writing / interesting concept theory. Michel Faber has a very distinct (and SLOW) writing style that isn't for everybody. I'm not even sure it's for me, but I never considered giving up on any of his books regardless.
