The Outlaw is Back In O! Town

I've been back for about five days now, I just haven't gotten around to doing an update in the meantime. Have I ever mentioned how addicting Facebook is? I finally checked out this horse racing application a friend of mine invited me to a long time ago. Its been my major online obsession for the last two weeks.
Not much to report thus far. Classes have been good, other than the eight in the morning start across the board sucking royally. Depending on my relationship status at the time I get done (likely to still be the same knowing me) I may just opt for an evening/night shift when I get done. Most people aren't as willing to work those and it actually fits better with my nocturnal nature. That's one nice thing about health care as a profession, its got options for people who would rather not swing the standard 8-5 song and dance.
Tuesday I made my first major trip back in Omaha. I braved the construction on I480 to go down to Papillion (a suburb of Omaha I think, its tough to tell in the urban sprawl). This goes back to the application at Target I mentioned about two or three entries back. I hadn't realized just how far south it was, that may be less than idea for working. It was also my first time in an actual Super Target. That sucker was massive. I did the application and went to say hi to my friend. It was interesting to see where the pharmacy was: rather than on the edge of the store, it was in a kiosk type setup right in the middle of it. I've heard talk that this is the busiest Target in Omaha. Not a problem by me. I had seen there was a Dairy Queen on the way down and so I made a stop. I had a hankering for my new favorite Blizzard: Chocolate Extreme. I had an ulterior motive for doing my job app on Tuesday: I also took the time to pick up Season 4 of House on DVD.
Before I get too deep into my exploits back in the big O, I suppose I've got a few more things to cover. The last night of work went fairly well. Once again the ScriptPro machine suffered a minor blip, but they got it back online in a short time. Things were reasonable on the outpatient side of things, I had brought my camera to take some photos, it sat in my bag until I went to do the inpatient end of the night. I went around and snapped some shots. It was a pretty quiet night but there were some antibiotic orders early on, so I got to listen in and pick up some information. It was a pretty good night all things considered. Pretty soon it was over and I was taking the last walk back to my car like I had a year ago. Big difference tonight though, it lacked the sense of things ending and a new beginning that last year's was full of. To start of with, I had no idea if I was evening going to be coming back to the VA at all a year ago, now its going to happen again in less than a month. Also, I was just starting school a year ago, completely brand new experience.
Saturday my grandma and uncle Rich came down. They wanted to see me before the end of summer and that was really nice of them. We had a lot of pitch games and I had my A game on in the acey-deucey variation we do with five. I did pretty good considering I didn't catch a huge number of bidding hands, but I ran with the ones I got and I got taken as a partner a lot. We all went out to the barn to see the horses. Not much to report in the last few days there, Mom's been treating Stormy's foot infection the last several days and its seemed to be getting better. Sunday we all took a trip to Sams to get some supplies for everybody. After lunch and a few more rounds of cards it was on the road for me.
Tuesday night I headed over to the Cresent Moon for the "last pint night of the summer" (and my first as it turns out since I hadn't gotten in on any of that action). All of the folks were downstairs, but I ran into Ally at the bar. She was getting the specialty beer of the night and so I had it too. It was pretty good, I ended up going for another one by the end of the night. I got to catch up with a lot of the folks from my class. It was interesting, as always, to see the dynamic of group interaction. The P2s (my crew) were hanging out by the TV, generally mingling and being friendly, as usual. The P3s had their own table and I heard that some of them had been kind of short with some of the other folks. It puts some of the snubs I dealt with last semester in perspective. I think something needs to be done about this, but that's all I'll say at this point.
I think this is going to be a good semester. The faculty seems a lot more dynamic for the most part and interesting and the subject material is finally getting into the guts of what I need to know to really make a difference in people's lives. I've got a lot to prove after the fumble of last semester. I really want to see if I can pull a 4.0 this semester. I know I've got the mind to do it, time will tell if I've got the determination to make it happen. I should probably wrap this up and hit the sack: that 7 am buzzer comes way too soon.
