Ran my first 5K in over 15 years, and posted a time of 33:55. It was kind of fun having the chip timer on my shoelaces. My big goal for the day was to be on the tail end of the middle, and I pretty much pulled that off. My first mile was pretty fast, and I was passing people. Around the halfway point, I started backing off a little bit, keeping something in reserve. Around the 3 mile mark, I slowly built up to a trot, and came up with a little something on the last half mile, which was downhill. I think I was in something like 78th place overall, and between 30th and 39th place in my age group. My number was 203, and I assume that at least 200 were entered, but I don't know how many actually showed up this morning.

The one thing that I told myself throughout the race was that I wasn't im competition with anyone out there except for myself. I did set small goals about passing certain people in front of me, and didn't quite get there. I also probably could have come up with a little more for the last little bit. My main goal for today was to establish a baseline, and try to improve a little each time.

I ran into a couple of familiar faces this morning, one was the mother of one of our actors, and the other is a Twitter friend. Mainly, I was looking forward to listening to my iPhone. The Groove Line is my new official race kickoff song. Sadly, by the time I got to Hella Good, the phone started to go a little haywire, getting "butt dialed" in my pocket. I finally stuck it in my pocket near the tail end of the race, and decided to crank it up as much as I can physically near the end.

It was a fun experience, and I'm gonna try and squeeze in some more of these. Right now, I have developed a fetish for exercise, and some new things are cropping up.

5k, runwild, exercise, running
