Last night at the open Mic was pretty fun. We actually had over ten people there, which is a huge crowd for us, and we did some pretty funny material. themo_man and Paquito took turns reading each other's material, and it is really fun to watch, because you really get an idea of how divergent that people's styles are.
At the next slam, I told Mo that I wanted to be the feature act if I can get my guy out to record. I figure that will be a good way that I can lay down a couple of the tracks for the album, without taking the chance on open Mic or the slam, where I won't have as much time to work. I'm also looking to step my performance up a level or so, because it is pretty obvious that even if I don't consider most of my work to be slam poetry, the fact of the matter is that this is something that I have been involved with for quite a while, and probably will be for some time to come.
I got some of the DVDs in that ordered online. I got Volume 1 of Aqua-teen Hunger force and Space Ghost coast to coast, and have really enjoyed my purchases....funny stuff, and I particularly love the fact that the animations are so minimalistic. They don't really seem to give a shit about making the cartoons seem remotely realistic, because what is funny is content. I have also decided that my elitist attitude about television is now a thing of the past. I don't like commercials, but the instant gratification that you get from the DVD box sets now makes it possible for me to enjoy reruns with the whole instant gratification thing at work.
Amanda and I talked quite a bit last night. Without going too much into the particulars of our conversation, I will say that the distance thing is starting to be an issue already. We also made a decision that if one of us calls and it is a bad time, then we will get off the phone and call back when we can. Even though we are very far apart, it is still necessary to give each other space, and I think that we have been doing a rather poor job of giving each other the space that is necessary to be truly happy.
Anyway, 20 big ones until the little darlings are back from 6th period...I should probably get into character.
