Deceit in Evangelising

Jun 20, 2011 00:28

So I was hanging out with some friends tonight, and they told a story that disturbed me. Apparently one time their pastor decided that he was going to preach outside a Catholic church. So he dressed up like a priest and started telling people to repent. The punchline of the story (which was supposed to make it funny) is that he forgot to remove his wedding ring and was found out.

Full disclosure: I'm Catholic. I don't particularly think devout Catholics need to be "saved." But even if they did, it seems wrong to be to be using deceit in order to bring people to Christ. It seems like using the excuse 'ends justify the means' to justify sinful actions such as lying.

What do you guys think?
