Hope deflated?

In talking with people from my church and from the church my father runs, it's apparent that even Christians are a little less hopeful in the midst of this economic uncertainty. I know personally I have not been as hopeful about things as I was last year at this time, and a bit more critical of situations now that what we thought would be a bump in the road is a full blown recession. I spend more time on job boards looking at potential jobs ( one of which I am waiting on) then I do praying: It's taking a toll on me, on friends, and on church members..

I wonder if anyone else is seeing this trend in their church community? Is your church focusing on this issue? How has this economy affected ( or not affected) your spiritual life?

As an endnote, I have found that reading the Psalms is an eerie experience, seeing as they so often match what's going on this day in age.
