Prayers for Kenya ( and other places)

Feb 10, 2009 09:29

Along with most of the "Horn Of Africa" Kenya is battling a severe drought and price-fixing that has massively inflated the price of maize, a staple of the Kenyan diet. My Kenyan friend has been in contact with me and says the situation on the ground is very bad. In his hometown, entire families are going door to door to beg their neighbors for food. While food aid is coming in, some of it has mysteriously gone missing from storage sites, leading to the belief that it is being sold on the black market. My friend, an ordained Anglican Youth Pastor, is finding his own youth are coming to him in hopes that he ( through his connection with me) can help them.

I do not have the resources nor does my family to help his community in a large way ( I have helped him out with personal expenses related to his ministry before, such as seminary fees), so I have directed him to some local NGO's and Christian relief agencies linked to the Anglican Communion. I am worried for his family and his village that they may already be missing meals..

Please join me in praying for Kenya and all places where there is famine, that God may bring rain, food, and an abundance of hope. We know that what we cannot do on our own, God can!

If you would like to donate, please consider giving to Oxfam or World Relief, who are trying to get food into areas such as Muranga District and the arid northern area of Marsabit and Mandera districts.
