A novel idea..

Some Christian friends and I have decided on a fairly novel yet controversial idea: Not engaging in debates ("discussions" is to PC) via blogs. We decided that there is so much useless and negative energy attached to arguing, that it actually takes away from serving the kingdom of God. Think about it, we could argue about Homosexuality, the infallibility of this and that gospel, Gnosticism, Muslims, etc till we're blue in the face, or we can share our faith, help a friend, feed the homeless, advocate for the underprivledged, etc.

"But that's unbiblical, even the apostles argued!"

Yes, they did, sometimes to the benefit of their cause, sometimes not. Paul in his letter to Timothy warned him this way:

Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful (2 Tim. 2:23-24)

You might also forget that debate and argument, while healthy and necessary at times, threatened to tear the Phillipian church apart. What would have happened if they just let Euodia and Synteche fight it out? Clearly nothing of merit. So far, I have seen more baiting and comment flame wars on here than posts about one's faith, questions about scripture, or testimonies of what God is doing in ones life. I didn't join this community to be among a bunch of people who like to play Theologian way too much. Sorry to be harsh, but I feel we are getting away from what this forum could really be used for.

I fully expect bitchy comments, but I've said my peace.
