Stark Reality of the Unseen Realm.

I was watching a special on the Discovery channel the other day about a family that was haunted by a demon. To be fair, I'm not -completely- sure the story was -completely- for real, but since it was on the Discovery channel, I'm willing to at least consider it.

In the story, it took the parents forever before they would believe their kids about seeing this demon, and it even took a few very frightening manifestations for them to accept that yes, there was indeed something spiritual going on.

What surprises me, though, was that this family were supposedly Catholics...and yet the mom said that she hadn't believed until then that the spiritual realm could interact with the physical.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always found this really odd. People believe that Jesus was the Son of God, performed miracles, cast out demons out of people...and yet don't believe that demons even exist, or at least don't interact with us today.

That goes for the rest of Scripture as well. Someone will defend the truth of angels rescuing Lot, Moses parting the Red Sea by God's power, manna from heaven to feed the Israelites...and all manner of other incredible things...yet when it comes to the idea that the spiritual...holy or hellish...could possibly interact with us today, it's either written off as fanatical, or not even acknowledged.

So, my question is this: How many of us feel we've actually had an encounter with the spiritual? I don't just mean being 'filled with the Spirit' at church...but what about in other ways? And why is the idea of encountering the spiritual in our everyday lives written off by even the most devout of us?

Do you personally believe the spiritual interacts with the physical today? What are your thoughts?
